Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is an XBOX One arcade racing game, developed by Beenox and published by Activision. It is the remake of 1999s Crash Team Racing. The game is based around the characters of Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot and his friends and foes, who face each other in a racing tournament. Nitro-Fueled draws from the original game as well as Crash Nitro Kart, offering vehicle modification, combat modes arenas and more, introduced in both games. Players will be able to face each other in local or online multiplayer, as well ride solo in single player modes. 

Gameplay

Just like the title suggests, CTR Nitro-Fueled is based around taking on other characters in a series of races. Races occur on various stages where players can collect weapons and powerups by smashing through boxes located along the track. The player can choose from 15 available characters, whose vehicles all drive differently: some are balanced, some focus on speed and others on weaponry.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled offers various modes taken from both the original game and Crash Nitro Kart. Players can choose to participate in races or take on their opponents in battle mode. Racing modes include the standard arcade, time trial and cup tournament, while battle mode throws players into an arena where they must collect weapons and fight other racers.  Both race mode and battle mode can be played solo or against other players in local or online multiplayer.    

Story and playable characters

The story of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled has the main character, Crash Bandicoot, and his friends and foes compete in a racing tournament, organized by Nitros Oxide – alien being claiming to be the best racer in the universe. Crash and his pals must recover 4 boss keys from Nitros Oxide’s minions to take him on and save Earth from being turned into a parking lot.

The game features 15 playable characters: the main character of the series Crash Bandicoot, Coco, Bandicoot, Crash’s younger sister, Doctor Neo Cortex, the protagonist’s arch-enemy, and other characters from the Crash Bandicoot series.

Reception & Summary

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled was met with very positive initial reception, with critics declaring it a worthy competitor for Mario Kart. Nitro-Fueled was also praised for significant improvements in graphics, incorporating elements from Crash Nitro Kart and overall truthfulness to the series wacky theme.
