Diablo IV is an online open-world action-RPG game, developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The game is the fourth installment in the cult classic Diablo series. The developers at Blizzard hand the player control of one of five classes of warriors in a free-roam environment of the Sanctuary. The game’s plot follows the events of Diablo III, and shows the world ruined by war, in which a new enemy arises. Diablo IV features an MMO-like gameplay style, with players sharing the open-world map. The game received positive initial feedback, with reviewers pointing out to the gameplay mechanics and visuals as the strongest points of the upcoming title.
The Sanctuary is open with new gameplay features
Gameplay wise, Diablo IV draws inspiration from the previous titles in the series, namely Diablo II and III. The player controls a character of their choice on the open-world map, engaging in fights with enemies and interacting with NPCs for quests. The game world of the Sanctuary is made of five regions: Khejistan, Scosglen, the Dry Steppes, the Fractured Peaks and Hawezar. The map can be traveled on foot or on horseback.
The mechanics of Diablo 4 remain mostly unchanged. The player chooses one of five character classes, which specializes in different styles of combat: the Barbarian is an excellent close-range fighter, shapeshifting Druid, and powerful Sorceress, among others. The player can customize their in-game avatar as well as their mount. Items found on defeated enemies and in chests can be equipped on both the player character and the mount.
The game features elements of MMO, where players can interact with each other on the world map. For this, Diablo IV requires a constant internet connection. The players can participate in PvP matches in specially designed zones, as well as band into groups and take on procedurally generated dungeons together.
The story of Lilith, Daughter of Mephisto
Years after the events of Diablo III and the destruction of the Black Soulstone and the Prime Evil, the Sanctuary remains in the state of chaos. Seizing the chance, Lilith, daughter of Mephisto and the Queen of Succubi, emerges from the darkness, ready to sow terror and destruction in the Sanctuary. Corrupting men, flora and wildlife alike, Lilith will stop at nothing to take over. It is up to you to stop Lilith’s dark reign from spreading and putting an end to her evil machinations.
The initial reception of Diablo IV was highly positive. During the 2019 BlizzCon, Blizzard presented a short gameplay demo, which was received well by the critics and fans of the series. Those who had a chance to play it praised the visuals of the game as well as the gameplay, which they said was influenced by both prequels to Diablo IV. According to the critics, this new installment of the cult-classic series is shaping to be its another great entry.
