AMD has suggested that the next-generation Xbox console is targeting a 2027 launch window.
The information comes directly from AMD CEO Lisa Su during the company’s Q4 2025 earnings call.
Next Xbox console 2027: What AMD revealed
During the call, Su discussed the next phase of company’s collaboration with Microsoft, highlighting progress on AMD semi-custom SoC (system-on-a-chip) being developed for the upcoming Xbox. According to Su, AMD Xbox chip project is progressing well and remains on track to support a potential launch in 2027.
It’s important to note that Microsoft has not confirmed a next-gen Xbox release window in any official capacity. However, comments made by AMD CEO Lisa Su during an earnings call carry weight, given AMD’s role as Microsoft’s hardware partner. While this does not constitute a formal announcement, it can be interpreted as a credible signal of Microsoft’s internal planning.
The call also included a discussion of AMD’s semi-custom business. Su noted that revenue from the gaming-related semi-custom segment is expected to decline significantly in 2026. Rather than signaling weaker demand overall, the dip may represent a gap between late-cycle console sales and preparations for new console hardware expected to launch in 2027.
AMD and Microsoft Partnership
AMD and Microsoft announced their collaboration in 2025 as a multi-year partnership. Under the agreement, AMD committed to developing custom silicon for Microsoft platforms, supported by a broader technology roadmap that combines Ryzen CPU and Radeon GPU architectures. This collaboration extends beyond traditional consoles to include PCs, handheld devices, and cloud gaming infrastructure.
A potential 2027 Microsoft Xbox launch would align with the expected console lifecycle, which typically spans five to seven years. However, the upcoming generation is likely to arrive in a very different market. Interest is increasingly shifting toward hybrid devices, cloud gaming platforms, and handheld gaming ecosystems.
