While Black Myth Wukong was much awaited for a few years, nothing could have prepared anybody for the avalanche of popularity this sort-of sequel to the timeless classic “Journey to the West”.
Quickly breaking records on Steam alone, this third-person action game became the runaway hit of 2024, and if you’re keen on Chinese folklore and intense boss fights, you should absolutely give this one a spin as soon as you can, and see what monkey business you can get up to.
Just don’t go in expecting a Soulslike combat or open world. Wukong’s closer to new God of War, instead.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Edition

If you WOULD, in fact, want a Soulslike combat, then look no further than towards Elden Ring and its massive Shadow of the Erdtree.
Merging FromSoftware’s pedigree in combat design with an open world structure and lore co-created by George R.R. Martin creates a game that’s hard to pass by if you enjoy dark fantasy, tough challenges, and epic storylines.
ER has plenty of that, although you need to piece some things together on your own, like in most Soulsbornes.
Star Wars Outlaws

The first proper open world in Star Wars? It’s possible.
Outlaws boldly goes where the Galaxies MMO and adventures of Cal Kestis first tentatively ventured, and makes the best of the opportunity. Ubisoft’s talent for creating detailed, vibrant worlds got to shine here. In the boots of scoundrel Kay Vess you’ll visit multiple planets, anger multiple factions, as well as sneak and shoot your way through many problems.
Oh, and you also get to have a cute animal companion, Nix, who has the best traits of dogs and axolotls, and can be of great help during your escapades.
Fallout 4

Fallout 4 is hardly a fresh game, but it’s a great point of entry, especially if you’ve only learned of this series thanks to the hit TV show.
It puts you in the shoes of a parent looking for their child, kidnapped unscrupulously from a Vault’s hibernation chamber. The road to reunion, however, will be full of challenges, including several factions to navigate, and a hard work of rebuilding civilization one settlement at a time.
The Game of the Year Edition includes all the expansions and smaller DLC, making this the most complete and content-rich version of Fallout 4 you could get, and it’ll give you a great intro before you find the time to dive into previous video games in the series.
