Picking games for your children is definitely a daunting task.

After all, you would want them to play only wholesome titles, right? Don’t worry, we got you covered. Here’s a guide to the best games 7-year-old kids are bound to love.

We’ve selected a couple of titles which might be the best for this age group. Such children are far more demanding when it comes to what they want to spend their time on, so what they need is a whole bunch of quality games. The one’s we’ve listed below should totally cater to their tastes.

What does PEGI 7 mean, anyway?

It’s pretty much almost the same rating as PEGI 3, but while PEGI 3-rated games are for everyone, PEGI 7 games feature a bit more violence and stuff that might be frightening to the youngest children.

Still, it’s all very mild, cartoony, often implied, so don’t worry: while the games below might have some “scary” stuff (at least for your kids), it’s not going to traumatize them in any way. Like we said, it’s going to be very cartoonish.

Let’s take a look at our picks of the best games for 7-year-olds, shall we? These titles are family-friendly and a bunch of them feature local multiplayer, so you can join the fun and play together with your kids, which is an added plus!

Minecraft

Release date:2009-05-17
Genre:Sandbox
Developer:Mojang

Pretty much the king of games for kids, Minecraft lets them unleash their creativity in a world made of building blocks. Sort of like LEGO, but in a virtual setting.

The primary mode puts the player in a procedurally-generated world where they’re supposed to make a living by gathering resources, crafting tools, building hideouts, and survive against attacks of all sorts of vile creatures. You can play solo and with others, either in co-op or against other players.

The true power of the game lies in the fact that you can build so much in this game using a very simple construction system, block by block. The Creative mode gave birth to so many incredible projects, including replicas of real-world and fantasy/science fiction buildings and landmarks. Minecraft is certainly one of the greatest games for kids, encouraging creativity, co-operation, and patience.

LEGO City Undercover

Release date:2017-04-04
Genre:Adventure
Developer:TT Fusion

Now, by giving your kids this game to play you might either scratch their “I want GTA” itch or actually make them want Rockstar’s game even more. Jokes aside, it’s a legit action-adventure game where you get to play as an undercover cop on the hunt for a dangerous criminal, Rex Fury.

The game follows sort of the same premise as other titles by TT Games. It’s a mixture of action, platforming, and puzzle-solving. You have a series of linear levels to complete, you have an overworld – LEGO City – which you can explore as you see fit, you can get all sorts of disguises which give you special abilities and let you enter previously inaccessible areas.

Naturally, there’s plenty of good-natured humor around here, so you’re in for a sensible chuckle here and there. We mean, your kids are. But, thanks to the 2017 remaster, you can now play LEGO City Undercover locally, so why not grab a pad yourself and grab a piece of the action side by side with your progeny?

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Release date:2018-11-13
Genre:Adventure
Developer:Toys for Bob

Three classic platformer games for kids got updated for modern times. What’s not to love here?

You play as the titular Spyro, a purple dragon accompanied by his best buddy, a dragonfly by the name of Sparx. The latter serves as a health indicator, as he protects you from damage up to a certain extent. Your mission? Bring peace to a variety of worlds, depending on the game.

Levels and gameplay have been unified across all three. Additionally, some potentially insensitive content has been modified. In general, if you’re looking for a fun, colorful game for your kids, Spyro Reignited Trilogy is one of your best bets. It’s lovely, plays great, exactly what you’d ask for.

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville

Release date:2019-10-18
Genre:Action
Developer:PopCap Games

If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly shooter for your children, Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is one of the titles you definitely shouldn’t miss.

It’s essentially a class-based shooter for kids. You get to pick from 23 different, customizable classes divided into four different groups. Then you join one of the two factions – either Plants or Zombies – and duke it out on various maps across all sorts of modes, including Turf Takeover (which is objective-based) and Team Vanquish (which is team deathmatch, plain and simple). Co-operative play is also possible.

The game also supports local multiplayer, so why not grab them controllers and fight alongside your kids? Or better yet, challenge them to a friendly face off?

Rayman Legends

Release date:2013-08-29
Genre:Adventure
Developer:Ubisoft Montpellier

The last on our list is a great addition to a classic (but now sadly forgotten – those darn Rabbids!) series of platformers. If 2D is more of your kids’ thing, this is definitely a great choice for their wonderful next adventure.

Rayman Legends picks up where Rayman Origins left off, offering you a whopping 120 levels to complete, many of them involving all sorts of challenges and gameplay modifiers, such as rhythm game sections. It’s definitely content-rich, so your kids won’t run out of things to do anytime soon.

A four player co-op mode is also included, so you can definitely join the fun and have some quality time with your loved ones!

And there you have it: a fine selection of some of the greatest games for 7-year-olds. Some are perfect for unleashing their creativity, while others simply promise hours of good fun, often letting more players join in.
