With Black Friday around the corner you’re going to have plenty of ways to get on the PlayStation train, be it the PS4 slowly leaving on its long, final journey, or PS5, which has only recently arrived at the station.

PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5

Both have really compelling arguments for getting them. PS4 has a vast library of exciting exclusives such as God of War and Bloodborne, and since it’s been on the market for a while it’s now cheaper than it’s ever been. PS5 is the much more powerful newcomer with amazing technological features such as ray tracing and 8k support, as well as backwards compatibility, if you already have a PS4 and don’t want to abandon your favourite games.

Games

God of War

The God of War series is a natively PlayStation title, and the 2018 reboot revitalised it in an incredible way. It removed Kratos, a Spartan warrior with literally ashen skin from his Ancient Greek homeland and transported to the frosty Scandinavia, where Norse gods still live and prepare for Ragnarok. God of War earned awards adoration of the fans, and widespread approval of the critics. It’s no surprise that there is a sequel coming, especially since it’s been teased in a final scene of GoW.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar’s cowboy epic quickly became one of the best-received games of its year, and it continues to shock with the level of detail and meticulous design. Playing as Arthur Morgan you’ll see first hand the downfall of Van Der Linde’s gang, forge your own reputation by interacting with locals in towns and settlements, and participate in many exciting action sequences. It’s the finest western to ever come to consoles (and PC). It also has a great online segment, which allows you to create your own wild plains drifter with their own posse of other players. Whether you want to roleplay or cause some mischief, it’s definitely more fun to do so with friends.

Grand Theft Auto V

GTA5 remains one of Rockstar’s most successful games, despite being launched in 2013 for PS3. You get to play as three different criminals instead of the usual one: Michael, an ex-thief; Franklin, a young gangster Franklin; Trevor, a violent gun-runner. You can switch between them almost any time you want, and Rockstar made sure you’ll find them in interesting situations when you do. Like Red Dead Redemption 2 it also has a thriving online segment, with many competitive and coooperativer activities available.

Bloodborne

Coming from the hands of FormSoftware, the creators of Dark Souls and a relatively recent Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Bloodborne is by many considered a masterpiece, with good reason. You’re playing as a person who came to a city of Yharnam seeking cure but ended up becoming a hunter of Lovecraftian nightmares and other monsters plaguing the place. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you love Dark Souls and haven’t played Bloodborne yet.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

One of the finest licensed superhero games ever made, featuring everybody’s favourite friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Thwipping throught the city feels amazing, combat is quick and makes great use of Spidey’s agility, and the story features guest appearances from many fan favourites. Even better: recently a semi-sequel launched, featuring Miles Morales as the local friendly arachnid, since Pete and MJ are out of town for a bit. And he has much of his cool stuff, including invisibility and electric punches.

Ghost of Tsushima

Sucker Punch Productions truly lived up to its name in the best way. Ghost of Tsushima, a historical fiction game set during the Mongol invasion of Japan was truly a sucker punch, int hat nobody expected it to be so good. As Jin Sakai, a survivor of a catastrophic battle, you’ll become a nightmare for the invaders, killing them from the shadows and walking opernly into their encampments like they are nothing before you. You decide how you want to fight back, and how much your honor can handle.

Demon’s Souls

The game that started it all, Demon’s Souls is a classic, and until recently it was left behind on a generation long gone. Thankfully with the power of PS5 it was brought back from oblivion, and how! It’s a full graphical remake, and the monsters standing in your way look more gruesome than ever before. Witness for yourself how the Soulsborne craze began with graphics worthy of the new generation. Just be careful, time hasn’t dulled the edge and the game will make you take each fight seriously.

Cyberpunk 2077

If you’re looking for new games to play on your PS4 or PS5, why not the most anticipated release of the year, Cyberpunk 2077 from the makers of The Witcher 3? Set in the futuristic Night City and based on a classic tabletop RPG, Cyberpunk 2077 puts you in the shoes of V, a gun for hire trying to make a living in the brutal underworld of the city, divided between vicious gangs and unscrupulous corporations. With extensive RPG features, detailed character customisation, and many ways to complete your missions CP2077 is the science fiction immersive RPG for the new generation.
