What is Brotato?
Brotato is a fast-paced top-down roguelite shooter where players pick from dozens of available potato-like characters and test their skill and reflexes in increasingly difficult arena encounters.
The game’s defining features are its simple but adorable 2D art style and a huge variety of character builds to discover and try.
Learn new skills and get new items as you’re diving deeper into the dungeon; mastering item synergies and utilizing the strengths of each playable character will be crucial to achieve success in this bullet hell mayhem.
Brotato Tier List (DLC Included) – Best Characters to Choose in 2026
Brotato is a skill-based game. You can’t brute-force it or farm levels or gear in hopes of eventually outleveling the enemies for easy wins. You need an actual strategy and skill to succeed in Brotato.
Choosing the right character is also part of the equation, as characters were not made equal. Balancing a game that features dozens of different characters and over a hundred items is not an easy task, so naturally, some characters will perform better than others, despite balance patches that aim to bring the power difference to a reasonable level.
And now we’re getting to the point of this tier list – to give you an idea of which characters are worth picking at the beginning if you’re still learning how to play. Choosing a strong character will allow you to succeed more easily and learn the game more quickly, as you’ll be able to interact with all the game mechanics sooner.
So, without further ado, let’s take a closer look at the best Brotato characters that will significantly increase your odds of beating the most difficult stages.
All lists are sorted alphabetically.
S-Tier – Easiest Wins in Brotato
The characters in this tier are the absolute best. They’re usually straightforward to play and have many viable builds, making them more resistant to unfavorable RNG.
Whether you’re aiming for some easy D5 wins or you want to get as high as possible in the Endless mode, S-Tier characters are your best bet to get there with the least effort, at least compared to the rest of the Brotato cast.
Keep in mind that it doesn’t mean it will be exactly “easy”; Brotato as a whole is a pretty difficult game, especially at Danger 5 and beyond, so you’re still expected to play well.
- Buccaneer (Abyssal Terrors DLC) – early game may feel clunky, but once you get past that, you’ll learn to love Buccaneer’s weapon cooldown reset on picking up materials. Focus on high-cooldown weapons to make the best use of it.
- Builder (Abyssal Terrors DLC) – a very straightforward character that scales well into the Endless mode if you keep stacking Engineering bonuses.
- Creature (Abyssal Terrors DLC) – a curse-scaling character with excellent damage growth; invest in fast-hitting weapons and attack speed for best results.
- Curious (Abyssal Terrors DLC) – strong economy and very high flexibility due to a bonus that gives you extra experience for every different item you have; meta builds are literally “random stuff, go!”
- Demon – can be a bit tricky to pull off, but it’s one of the best characters if you’re aiming to push deep into the Endless mode, thanks to insane character scaling and converting materials into health.
- Druid (Abyssal Terrors DLC) – very similar to Demon in that it’s not an auto-win, but if you start snowballing and stack Luck-oriented gear, you’ll be unstoppable in the Endless mode.
- Entrepreneur – has a huge material advantage but requires smart spending and getting rid of all the money after each wave, as unused materials are lost.
- Farmer – incredibly powerful, as it relies entirely on harvesting to establish unmatched economic strength. Eating increases harvesting, so go for pruners to spam fruit drops via gardens.
- Loud – 50% more enemies may sound scary, but it’s actually awesome, as it gives you more resources and lets you snowball easily well into the endgame.
- Multitasker – has insane weapon synergy as it allows you to use not 6 but 12 weapons at the same time. It’s a very flexible character to play. Stack flat damage bonuses to offset the damage penalty.
- Renegade – a character made for ranged combat; extra projectiles, additional piercing, and incredible scaling thanks to extra damage for every Tier I item you own.
- Sick – despite a scary-looking debuff that drains 1 health per second, it’s actually a very easy character to play, as long as you focus on fast-hitting weapons, such as SMG, to trigger lifesteal continuously.
- Soldier – offers a unique gameplay, as Soldier can only attack when standing still, but damage bonuses more than make up for it; if you invest in some defenses, you’ll be able to conquer the highest difficulty levels.
- Speedy – not only has extra movement speed to make it easier to avoid enemy attacks, but also converts speed into melee damage, incentivizing getting even more speed.
A-Tier – Less Powerful but Still Reliable and Easy to Play
This tier houses characters that are slightly below the absolute powerhouses from the top tier. They still make for perfectly valid choices to conquer the endgame, although you might occasionally find yourself in a tight spot if RNG decides to screw you over.
With that being said, they’re certainly better than most of the characters in Brotato if you’re aiming for high level stages.

B-Tier – Strong in the Right Hands but More Niche
Starting from tier B, the characters you’ll find here and below are generally not recommended for beginners. B-tier characters in Brotato require more skill and knowledge to achieve a satisfying outcome.
They can be insanely powerful if you get lucky with drops or you know what you’re doing, but they require having a proper strategy. You can’t expect a victory by going in blindly with a B-Tier character. This is where you’ll have to play into characters’ strengths and weaknesses more aggressively.

C-Tier – Underpowered or RNG-heavy
In this section, you’ll find the rest of the characters from Brotato. C-Tier characters are either severely lacking in power or rely heavily on RNG, often making D5 runs a frustrating experience for newcomers.
Avoid these if you’re a beginner. To make C-Tier characters work, you not only need to have a proper understanding of the game’s mechanics and item synergies; more often than not, you’ll also need to unlock certain core items first.
