Chained Together
Chained Together is a cooperative 3D platformer in which we control a pair of unfortunates trying to escape from hell. We watch the action from a third-person perspective.
During the game, we play as the doomed trapped at the very pit of hell, who, wanting to escape the abyss, must begin an arduous climb and overcome a long path full of platforms, traps and various terrain obstacles.
The matter is further complicated by the fact that the characters we play are chained to each other. Although the latter restrict freedom of movement, at the same time their presence can be used to your advantage, wrapping them around objects or even using them to swing over precipices.
The dangerous adventures leads us through various locations, which we can traverse on three difficulty levels. While in the beginner mode we have the option of teleporting to the highest point we managed to reach before falling from a great height, on the normal level we are deprived of it. Nevertheless, in both cases we get an autosave, allowing us to resume the game where we left it.
The cherry on top is a special mode, in which the gradually rising level of lava on the board forces us to hurry.
Although Chained Together can be played solo, the title spreads its wings in the cooperative mode for up to four people, available via the Internet, as well as on a split screen. A substitute for multiplayer competition is online rankings, where you can boast about your results.
Getting Over It
Getting over it with Bennett Foddy for the PC and iOS platforms is a fun, highly difficult arcade game, in which the player’s task is to climb a steep slope using… a hammer and a large pot.
The independent developer Bennett Foddy is responsible for creating the production and it refers to Sexy Hiking created by Jazzuo and released in 2002.
The rules of the game in Getting over it are trivially simple, which cannot be said about the actual gameplay. The hero sits in a large pot, which covers him approximately to the waist.
The powerful arms hold a hammer, with which we move, using it a bit like a pole and making use of basic rules of physics. Additionally, we have the ability to hook the tip of the hammer to protruding pieces of rock.
The production created by Bennett Foddy offers about five hours of fun (certainly combined with a lot of frustration and potentially extended by throwing numerous curses).
A special reward awaits those who manage to reach the very top. The game is also accompanied by a philosophical commentary by the author. Although the game is played in two dimensions, the models of characters and elements of the environment are three-dimensional.
Cooperative vs. Solo Play
Why do some of us enjoy co-op gaming adventure so much? In short, cooperative games encourage collaboration as well as communication and unlike competitive games where winning is everything, co-op games emphasize collective success.
You either win together or lose together, which can lead to a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere in front of the screen. It’s a refreshing twist on traditional gaming.
On the other hand, solo-play in computer games offers a unique experience that can be quite rewarding. Unlike multiplayer games, where interactions with other players can be distracting, solo-play allows you to concentrate fully on the game mechanics, puzzles, and quests. There’s no need to worry about competition or keeping up with others.
Solo-play lets you enjoy the game without external pressures. In single-player games, you can experiment, try different strategies, and play as you like. There’s no need to conform to team dynamics or follow specific roles. You are in control.
And so Chained Together tests the limits of cooperation and coordination, making it more than just a game while Getting Over It is an exercise in patience, suspense, and overcoming frustration.
Both constitute an unforgettable and unique experience. And both, just like real climbing, require actual problem-solving skills. You analyze routes, plan moves, and adapt to unexpected obstacles. It’s like solving a 3D puzzle with your fingertips.
Remember, it’s not about which game is objectively better; it’s about what resonates with you. Team up or don’t, explore diverse mechanics, and savor the thrill of discovery.
So, next time you’re at your computer, consider scaling virtual cliffs: pick up that controller, hold that mouse steady, wield that keyboard, and embark on epic quests.
