Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

Release date:2009-11-12
Genre:Action & Shooter
Developer:Infinity Ward

Not to be confused with the 2009 sequel to the original Modern Warfare, MWII continues the reboot series started back in 2019. If you missed “Soap” McTavish, you’ll be glad he’s back!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

The plot revolves around Task Force 141, a special ops unit whose job is to take down Major Hassan Zyani, an ally to a terrorist group known as Al-Qatala and the Las Almas Cartel. This means you’ll travel to places such as Amsterdam, the Mexico-US border, the Gulf of Mexico, and a couple of fictional locations, too.

The game in general has received various improvements in the gameplay department, plenty of new moves and mechanics, as well as a couple of fresh multiplayer modes. And if you’re either into battle royale or Escape from Tarkov-style games, you’ll love both BR and DMZ modes, released also as Warzone 2.0, a stand-alone free-to-play game.

Either way, it’s a must-have for all fans of first-person shooters that are more on the realistic side and portray conflicts inspired by the real world events.

Key features
  • Plenty of gameplay improvements that make this Call of Duty experience fresh
  • Various multiplayer modes to try out
  • Warzone 2.0 features a new map and a mode called DMZ (and is playable for free, of course)
  • The game looks spectacular, too

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Release date:2022-11-18
Genre:Action
Developer:Insomniac Games

OK, this game is not necessarily the freshest on this list, but it has just been released on PC with various visual upgrades. People say it’s the definitive version of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. You might as well see for yourself if it’s true or not!

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Just like its predecessor, the game is a third-person action-adventure affair where you explore an open world environment of a fictional take on Manhattan. There’s plenty of snow lying around, because it’s the holiday season. Wow, it’s a perfect game for December and Christmas! The plot revolves around the new Spider-Man getting involved in a destructive conflict between the Roxxon Energy Corporation and an army of high-tech thugs, known as the Underground. Will Miles save Harlem? All that depends on your exploits during the campaign, of course!

Just like its predecessor, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is all about exploring the city of New York, talking to people, embarking on various quests, unlocking new abilities, gadgets and Spidey suits as you gain more experience and progress through the story. Combat is still very satisfactory as well: you can combine devastating combos with the environment and web slinging Spider-Man is known for.

It’s a fantastic package which comes with various enhancements on PC. If you love superhero stuff, you’re in for a real treat here.

Key features
  • Various visual upgrades on PC
  • You can explore the city of New York freely
  • Fun combat mechanics
  • Plenty of stuff to unlock

Need for Speed Unbound

Release date:2022-12-02
Genre:Racing
Developer:Criterion Games

The latest entry in the Need for Speed series continues the open-world tradition known from a bunch of previous games, taking you to a place known as Lakeshore City (inspired by Chicago, by the way). Your task? Rock the local racing scene!

Need for Speed Unbound

The plot is all about a sudden resurgence of street races. The stakes are high, so your character wants to take part in The Grand, a major competition whose winner will get tons of money. Aside from racing and irritating the police, you can also customize your car.

One of the most striking features of Need for Speed Unbound is its art style which blends cel-shading and graffiti with realistic looks. Kind of controversial, but you’ll get used to it. There are mods that completely remove these effects, though.

It’s a fun game, so if you love arcade street racing, the new Need for Speed will be right up your alley.

Key features
  • Open-world environment of Lakeshore City
  • Various events to take part in
  • You can customize your cars to a pretty great extent
  • Unique visual style

Ready or Not

Release date:2021-12-18
Genre:First-Person
Developer:VOID Interactive

And now for something completely different: a tactical shooter experience that some people describe as a “tactical horror.” Ready or Not puts you in the shoes of a police officer tasked with dealing with shootouts, bombs and other nasty situations.

Ready or Not

The game offers five modes to choose from. You can apprehend barricaded nasties, conduct a raid on suspicious places, take down an active shooter, defuse bombs and handle hostage situations. You can complete these missions either with AI-controlled teammates or in a group of up to four players.

There’s quite a selection of firearms and non-lethal weapons that you can put to good use. Remember: arresting suspects pays off more than killing them, so avoid using brute force whenever possible. Ready or Not is essentially a spiritual successor to the SWAT series, especially SWAT 3 and SWAT 4 (the only tactical shooters in that franchise). It’s brutal, full of dark humor and pretty scary, so it’s probably not for the faint of heart, but if you’re looking for a demanding game that you can play with your friends, this one might be a perfect pick.

Ready or Not is in the Early Access stage, with a full release planned for the future.

Key features
  • Highly tactical gameplay
  • Various scenarios recreating typical situations policemen have to deal with
  • Apprehending suspects is much better than killing them
  • Playable both solo and in the co-op mode

Total War: Warhammer III

Release date:2022-02-17
Genre:RTS
Developer:Creative Assembly

Time for something totally different from the other games on this list. If you’re looking forward to becoming an armchair general commanding massive armies and love dark fantasy, you’ll love Total War: Warhammer III.

Total War: Warhammer III

Like in other games in the Total War series, there are two layers to the gameplay. The first one is a turn-based strategy where you move your armies, manage your kingdom and handle diplomacy-related stuff. However, when two armies meet, the game shifts to real-time battles where you can show off your tactical skills.

There are various kingdoms and Chaos factions to choose from and lead to victory. All in all, what you’re getting is a massive package for strategy fans. You’ll love it regardless of whether you’re looking for a solitary experience or for some multiplayer fun. Total War: Warhammer III is definitely one of the best games in the franchise, so you shouldn’t be disappointed.

Key features
  • One of the best Warhammer games ever
  • A massive map to explore and conquer in the single-player campaign
  • Various races and factions to choose from
  • You’ll get to feel the power of Chaos
