Romance options are now almost a standard in games. Take Fallout 4 as an example, where you could romance multiple NPCs and companions, unlock a range of unique perks and passive bonuses, access new side quests, and discover interesting world-building details.

However, despite what some guides might suggest, Fallout: New Vegas does not include traditional romance options.

How Can You Romance in Fallout New Vegas?

As mentioned before, the developers didn’t include full-fledged romances like those seen in newer RPGs and adventure games. Instead, there are single interactions with NPCs, essentially “brief nighttime adventures”. These encounters usually boil down to suggestive dialogue followed by a fade-to-black. It’s a mechanical feature, not a relationship that grows over time.

Why did the developers make this choice? Josh Sawyer, lead designer of Fallout: New Vegas at Obsidian, has repeatedly stated that he’s not fond of romances forced into games. For New Vegas, the team felt that the harsh post-apocalyptic Mojave tone, moral choices, and faction dynamics were more important than optional romances. Intimacy is therefore an addition, not a core pillar of the game.

Who Can You “Romance”? Sleeping Partners FNV

Without further ado, here’s a look at potential Sleeping Partners you can share a night with, along with what you need to trigger the interactions.

  • Benny

Benny is a Sleeping Partner available only for female Couriers. To take advantage of his services, you need the Black Widow perk. The encounter can happen during the main questline at The Tops casino.

Dialogue options marked with the Black Widow icon let your female Courier sleep with Benny. After the scene, you still have the freedom to kill him or spare him — your choices remain intact.

  • Sarah Weintraub

Sarah is located in Vault 21, running her gift shop. To romance her, you need to go through a sequence of dialogue options, including questions about the items she sells and Vault gear.

Then you must pass two speech checks, first at 65, then at 75. Completing her Suits You, Sarah quest, which involves delivering 30 Vault suits, unlocks the option to ask for a room and invite Sarah — leading to the intimate scene.

  • Red Lucy

Red Lucy can be found in the basement of The Thorn in Vegas. Romancing her is a bit trickier because it starts with the challenging (but rewarding) side quest Bleed Me Dry, which involves delivering eggs from various creatures living across the Mojave Wasteland.

After completing all deliveries, Red Lucy invites you for a private encounter — that’s one of the more narrative-driven scenes in the game.

  • Fisto

Fisto is one of the most unusual Sleeping Partners, and getting an encounter with him is far from a typical romance process. You need to visit the Atomic Wrangler Casino at night and start the Wang Dang Atomic Tango quest by talking to James Garret. Next, purchase the Ralph’s Sexbot Holodisk from Mick and Ralph.

Activating the holotape on a terminal at Cerulean Robotics “boots up” Fisto, whom you can “test” before delivering him to the Atomic Wrangler. Later, you can use his services again, but this time for a fee.

  • Prostitutes and paid partners

While Fisto technically falls into this group, the ability to test him for free makes him unique. Most other paid Sleeping Partners, including Dazzle, Joana, Beatrix Russell, Sweetie, Jimmy (available only for male characters), and Maude, require a payment in caps (usually 75–300).

To use Beatrix Russell’s services, you also need to start the Wang Dang Atomic Tango quest and bring her to the Atomic Wrangler Casino first.

What You Should Know?

  • Most interactions are one-time events — NPCs do not become long-term partners and will not revisit the topic later.
  • Sharing a night with someone doesn’t trigger new dialogue options or any ongoing relationship.
  • Afterward, your character usually receives a temporary Well Rested bonus.
  • Perks like Black Widow, Lady Killer perk, or high speech checks unlock extra dialogue options, lower prices, and sometimes shorten the “seduction” process — these are the main ways the game handles “personal charm”

Legacy, Mods, and Community

Although the game doesn’t include traditional romances, the community continues to discuss them actively. Many players lament that companions didn’t have romance options, which is why mods exist to expand or add these possibilities.

Modders have created extensions for relationships with beloved characters like Cass, Boone, Arcade, or Raul. They also often revisit unused dialogue that might hint at planned romance arcs. This community activity keeps Fallout New Vegas romance topics alive, attracting both returning and new players — the game still enjoys small bursts of renewed popularity.

Now, another surge of interest is coming thanks to the upcoming release of the second season of the Fallout series, this time set in New Vegas — proving that even decades later, this world continues to capture imaginations!
