G2A.COM  G2A News Features Fishing Games | Morning! Nice day for fishing ain’t it!
The fans of the Viva La Dirt League YouTube channel will recognize the quote from the title of this text. Baelin’s Route – Epic NPC Man video was one of their best-received productions. A tale of an NPC fisherman who joins a party of adventurers after his village is raided and ends up saving the day has become a fan favorite due to its production values and the protagonist. This simpleton defies his down-to-earth purpose and embarks on an epic adventure.
While most of the games don’t offer the player a chance to change the fate of an NPC in such a significant way, many offer them a chance to experience the joys of fishing – a pastime beloved by kings and gentry alike. Without further ado, let’s dig into our list of games where you can enjoy fishing!
Rare’s Sea of Thieves gives its players a chance to take part in the great adventure of being a seafarer. Exploration of the uncharted waters, completing dangerous missions, and fending off pirates waiting for an easy loot – those are only a few of the things the players of Sea of Thieves will experience throughout the game. All that embellished with the usual ups and downs of operating a ship with a crew made of sometimes questionably skilled online individuals.
As any game set on the open waters should, Sea of Thieves offers the players a chance to enjoy fishing. One of the trading companies the players can accept quests from is The Hunter’s Call. They trade in 10 types of sea creatures available in the game that the player will have to procure. The player can hand in the catch raw or cook it to receive more gold. The process of catching a fish in SoT is simple: after casting the line with bait, it’s all about careful maneuvering and reeling in the animal until it’s made its way safely into the players’ hands.

The fifth installment of the Elder Scrolls series takes the player to the northern reaches of Tamriel. There, among the hilltops and mountain ranges of Skyrim, the great dragon Alduin awakens and threatens to destroy the land. As the legendary Dragonborn, the player embarks on the quest to put an end to the dragon’s threat.
Besides dealing with story quests that lead the Dragon-born to the confrontation with Alduin and side-quests that deepen the lore of the land, the vast open world of Skyrim offers plenty of optional activities. Like fishing. The land is filled with rivers, lakes, and streams inhabited by all sorts of fishies. Well, maybe like, six. Aside from standard fish, the waters of Skyrim hid various other dangerous creatures that also can fall victim to the players’ mighty grasp. Ah, right, the game doesn’t feature usable fishing equipment – all the catching is done by hand or using Dragonborn’s trademark shout.

ARK: Survival Evolved takes the player to a mysterious island, where they are put to a murderous survival test. Not only do they have to make do with little resources and manage their character’s various life-threatening statistics (thirst and hunger being the main of them). The island is inhabited by prehistoric animals who would love nothing more than to take a bite from the player’s in-game avatar.
Luckily, all these inconveniences can be addressed. Building shelter, killing and taming dinos, and crafting resources are some of the options available o the player. The easiest way to fend off hunger is to find to craft a fishing rod, find a body of water and enjoy a lovely afternoon of fishing. The process occurs through a Quick-Time Event, and resources are sent to the player’s inventory upon its completion. Aside from juicy fish meat, the player can find blueprints, apparently eaten by the fish, to craft various items. What was that saying? “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day, give a man a fishing rod, and he’ll learn construction.” Or something like that.

Hope County had become a home to a dangerous cult, led by a charismatic father, Joseph Seed. The player, a rookie deputy marshall, is sent with a team to arrest Father Joseph. However, the mission goes sideways, and the Deputy is left stranded on the enemy territory, with little chance of rescue or calling for backup. Working together with the locals unhappy with the cult’s activity, the Deputy begins to dismantle father Joseph’s operation.
After a long day of fighting heavily armed zealots, it’s good to take a moment to relax. Far Cry 5 offers the player such a chance with fishing. For all the bad that’s going on in Hope County, the place has some decent fishing spots, where the player can enjoy some peace and quiet, uninterrupted by the guerilla warfare going on all around the county. The player can unlock various rods and baits to catch fish with – some of them can be purchased in gun stores, others require specific missions to be completed before they’re available. These missions involve fishing for a hard-to-catch animal, so the player should be ready to sweat a little bit to unlock them all. Luckily, the game offers the player various skills that can make fishing a whole lot easier.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is considered one of the best installments of the series. It featured one of the most extensive open-world settings in the series history, introduced a fan-beloved protagonist – a devilish rogue Edward Kenway – and implemented the naval gameplay mechanics that set the standard for similar games. As Edward, a young buccaneer-turned-pirate captain becomes involved in the war between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order, he discovers that his quest for fame and money might have led him away from his true purpose…
…which might have been being a sea produce merchant. One of AC IV’s most prominent gameplay features is hunting giant sea creatures, such as sharks, whales, and orcas. Unlike Sea of Thieves, which featured a more relaxed version of fishing, harpooning in Black Flag isn’t a task for the faint of heart. The game presents the hunting ith a gruesome detail and all its dangers as well. The animals don’t take kindly to being poked with sharp sticks and will retaliate to destroy your whaleboat. But the pride in seeing your catch hang by the starboard of your ship and the goods you can sell for a small fortune filling your hold is worth the risk of getting mauled by an angry great white shark.

For over 20 years, the magical world of Pokemon has been inviting players to try their luck in catching and training these mysterious creatures. Through a few generations of consoles, the players explored several regions of the Pokemon universe capturing various types of the increasingly larger roster of monsters. Due to their different types, some of the Pokemon could only be caught in specific regions and specific biomes within them. This is especially true for the water-dwelling Pokemon.
Different types of water-based monsters appeared throughout the years. The player could, of course, catch all of them – if they came prepared for the task. The ways of catching a Pokemon living in the water varied from generation to generation – most of the games required the player to have a rod and stand near the shore to begin fishing for a Magikarp. However, some titles in the series made the task a little bit harder – minigames were added to make the fishing process more challenging, and the fishing spots were limited to specific locations. Nevertheless, fishing has always been a part of the Pokemon-catching process, allowing the players to enjoy the fun (and torture) of waiting patiently for a Pokemon to take the bait.

Above all else, The Sims 4 is a life simulation. And life, as we all know, is complicated, and sometimes we need to unwind with a pleasant pastime. The Sims 4 lets the player do that in many ways, including the subject of this piece – fishing. The developers have went as far as to make becoming the master fisherman one of the sims’ aspirations. Talk about thoroughness!
Succeeding at fishing in The Sims 4 depends on many factors. The main of them is the sim’s expertise at the thing. By spending more and more time fishing, the sims become more proficient at fishing, and with time they level up to catch fish faster. The sims can learn their skills from reading books on the topic. If they possess an outdoor-loving trait, they can also level up their fishing skills faster. The fish caught by the sims can be cooked for dinner with friends or as a part of home decor. Nothing brightens the room better than a specialized aquarium full of goldfish.

Another game that allows the player to escape the hardships of their real-world lives and enjoy the mundanity of living on a small island, tending to your garden, and meeting with friends. Animal Crossing: New Horizons helped many people survive the peak of the 2020 Pandemic – cooped up under strict lockdowns, the players could live their lives in the virtual worlds of cute animals.
Like most social simulation games, New Horizons features many different side activities, including fishing. The player, equipped with a fishing rod and a bait, can approach a body of water and begin the process of forcefully inviting a fish to visit them for dinner. The fishing mechanics are simple enough that even the most inept players will grasp them after a few tries. All that remains is enjoying the time spent catching all sorts of water animals – our favorite was a whale shark, which looks hilariously large in the hands of a tiny villager.

Azeroth awaits its hero to deal with the dark forces brewing in the heart of the land. Equip your most powerful spells and arm yourself to the teeth to take on the evil and…wait, where are you going? No, leave that fishing rod! There’s no time for…oh, fine, whatever.
Aside from taking on the hordes of Chaos, World of Warcraft offers its players more relaxing activities, one of them being fishing. The interesting feature of fishing gameplay in WoW is that the player can fish not only in water and not only for the actual fish. The game gives a player a variety of liquids to dip the rod in, from rivers of hot lava to pools of metallic mercury. Fishing serves two purposes – the caught prey can be used to feed the player or the hunter pets. Cooking the fish, or whatever else the player has caught, increases the restorative and buffing stats of the item, making it more reasonable for the player to cook the food before eating it.

At the end of the 19th century, the Old West was practically extinct. Roving bands of gunslingers gave way to bustling cities where men in suits and bowl hats committed the robberies under the auspices of American law. This is the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, the latest game from Rockstar and the continuation of the excellent Red Dead Redemption. As Arthur Morgan and the other Van der Linde gang members try to find their place in the changing world, the player gets to experience a bit of life on the American frontier.
Red Dead Redemption 2 encapsulates the life of a cowboy with all its details. While exploring the game’s open world, the player will be able to partake in various frontiersman activities, including hunting and fishing. The latter is an exceptionally profitable endeavor for several reasons. Number one, the player should always try to keep Arthur well fed to keep his stats as high as possible. Fishing is one of the quickest ways to get some decent grub. Number two, catching and releasing fish increases the player’s honor. It’s a perfect way to reclaim some of that good karma after we accidentally trampled over the Marshall of Valentine or killed a bystander during a shootout with a rival gang.
