Dragon's Dogma 2 - Main Trailer

What is Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG where exploration and combat are built around player choice rather than constant direction.

You cross a large fantasy world with a party of Pawns, switch between combat Vocations, fight creatures ranging from goblins to Griffins and Dragons, and regularly find that getting from one quest to another becomes an adventure in itself.

Large enemies are more than oversized health bars. You can climb onto them, grab them, knock them off balance, target specific body parts, use terrain against them, or watch a carefully planned fight collapse because something else decided to join in.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 story premise

The story begins with the protagonist imprisoned underground and suffering from lost memories. They are the Arisen, a person chosen by the Dragon after having their heart taken from them.

The Arisen’s fate is tied to confronting the Dragon, but getting there involves much more than chasing one monster. The journey becomes tangled in the politics of Vermund, where a false Arisen sits at the center of a struggle over the throne, and Battahl, a neighboring beastren nation with a very different view of Pawns and the cycle surrounding the Dragon.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is interested in destiny, repetition, free will, and the role the Arisen is expected to play. It also leaves plenty of room to wander away from the main plot and let side quests, exploration, and unexpected encounters become the stories you actually remember.

Who is the main character?

You play as the Arisen, but this is not a predefined protagonist with a fixed name or appearance.

The player creates the Arisen from scratch and chooses whether they are human or beastren, what they look like, how they are built, and which Vocation they use. Their role in the story is fixed by fate, but their identity and combat style are largely yours.

The Arisen is also the only party member who can access every playable Vocation, including the hybrid and Arisen-exclusive classes unlocked later in the adventure.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 character customization

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has an unusually detailed character creator covering both the Arisen and their Main Pawn.

You can adjust facial structure, skin, body shape, musculature, height, proportions, hair, scars, tattoos, makeup, posture, and many smaller details. Body dimensions are not purely cosmetic either, since physical characteristics such as size and weight can influence aspects of movement and carrying capacity.

Your Main Pawn gets the same broad treatment, so the two central members of your party can be designed as a matching duo, complete opposites, recreations of existing characters, or whatever strange idea survives the sliders.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Vocations

Vocations function as Dragon’s Dogma 2’s class system. They determine the weapons you can equip, your core actions, available Weapon Skills, and the general rhythm of combat.

VocationBasic playstyle
FighterSword-and-shield melee specialist built around defense, counters, and close combat.
ArcherMobile ranged fighter using bows and specialized arrows.
ThiefFast dual-dagger attacker suited to climbing monsters and exploiting openings.
MageMagic user focused on offensive spells, healing, buffs, and party support.
WarriorHeavy melee class using massive two-handed weapons and charged attacks.
SorcererHigh-level offensive caster capable of devastating large-scale magic.
Magick ArcherArisen-only ranged Vocation using magical projectiles and support abilities.
Mystic SpearhandArisen-only hybrid combining a duospear with magical control abilities.
TricksterArisen-only support Vocation using smoke illusions and battlefield manipulation.
WarfarerArisen-only Vocation capable of mixing weapons and abilities from other Vocations.

You are encouraged to switch Vocations rather than commit to one for the entire game. Ranking them up unlocks Augments that can remain useful even after moving to another class.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 regions

The base game revolves primarily around two major nations, with several distinctive settlements and territories between them.

Vermund

Vermund is the human kingdom where much of the political storyline begins. Its capital, Vernworth, acts as an early hub, while the surrounding forests, roads, farms, ruins, caves, and villages form the greener half of the world.

Battahl

Battahl is a rugged beastren nation south of Vermund. Its landscape is drier and harsher, with canyons, rocky roads, dangerous monsters, and a culture that treats Pawns very differently from Vermund.

Sacred Arbor and the Volcanic Island

The Sacred Arbor is an elven settlement hidden away from the main roads, while the volcanic territories farther south lead into another dangerous stretch of the world filled with high-level encounters and important late-game locations.

Fast travel is intentionally limited compared with many open-world RPGs, making roads, campsites, oxcarts, Portcrystals, and Ferrystones part of the adventure rather than background conveniences.

Pawns and Dragonsplague

Pawns are Dragon’s Dogma’s signature party system. They are AI-controlled companions connected to the Rift and exist to serve the Arisen.

You create one permanent Main Pawn and can recruit up to two additional Pawns made by other players. Hired Pawns can bring knowledge gained in other worlds, including information about quests, enemies, routes, and discoveries.

The system makes Dragon’s Dogma 2 single-player without making it feel completely isolated. Pawns talk, react to situations, suggest routes, combine abilities, catch the Arisen after dangerous falls, and occasionally demonstrate that artificial intelligence and good judgment are not always the same thing.

What is Dragonsplague?

Dragonsplague is a condition that can affect Pawns who travel between worlds. Infected Pawns may become unusually powerful and increasingly disobedient, but allowing the condition to progress too far can have serious consequences.

Capcom has adjusted Dragonsplague several times since launch. The 2026 update cycle goes further by adding the Dragonsbaulk Draught, giving players a direct way to cure an infected Pawn while also making the positive and negative effects of the condition clearer.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen expansion

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launches on October 9, 2026. It is the major paid expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2 and brings a new storyline, a new northern region, new enemies, Relics, dungeons, equipment, skills, and character customization options.

On PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, existing players can purchase the Dark Arisen Expansion separately. A complete Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen package combines the base game and expansion, while Nintendo Switch 2 receives the game for the first time through the Dark Arisen release.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen story premise

Dark Arisen sends the Arisen north into the long-abandoned region of Norgan.

There, the party encounters the mysterious Eir, who is trying to uncover the truth behind the seemingly undying Fallen Dragon. The new storyline revolves around investigating Norgan, discovering forgotten Relics, meeting the people who remain there, and confronting the threats buried in the region.

The expansion continues the same Arisen’s journey rather than introducing a separate protagonist, so players bring their existing hero and Pawns into the new adventure.

Dark Arisen customization and Vocations

Dark Arisen does not add new Vocations. Instead, Capcom is expanding the ten existing classes.

Every Vocation receives new skills, including completely new abilities and higher-level versions of existing ones. A major 2026 title update also expands the number of equippable Weapon Skills from four to six, giving returning players considerably more room to rebuild familiar setups.

The character creator is expanding too, with new hairstyles and tattoo options for the Arisen and Pawns.

A side quest in Norgan can also unlock the ability to change the appearance of equipment obtained there while keeping the original item’s stats and performance.

Norgan, the Forsaken Dominion, and the Lost Rites

The biggest addition is Norgan, a snowy northern region very different from Vermund and Battahl.

The expansion’s main adventure is called Forsaken Dominion, which carries the new Norgan storyline. Capcom has confirmed new regional variants of familiar monsters alongside completely new enemies built with new skeletons.

Dark Arisen also places 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges across the existing Dragon’s Dogma 2 world. These contain trials connected to past Arisen and offer rare equipment for players willing to seek them out.

Capcom recommends roughly level 20 before tackling the Lost Rites and around level 40 for the Forsaken Dominion, although neither is hard-locked behind those levels.

Relic Expeditions

Relic Expeditions form one of Dark Arisen’s main progression loops.

The short version is that the Arisen ventures into dangerous areas, brings back Spoils, and has them appraised into Relics. Those Relics can provide weapons, armor, and other useful properties, giving exploration a new loot-focused layer.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen - Relic Expedition Gameplay Overview

The idea echoes the dungeon-and-loot appeal associated with the original Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen without simply recreating Bitterblack Isle. Capcom has specifically described Dark Arisen’s broader Expedition Cycle as similar in spirit to the first game’s expansion.

Pawns and Dragonsplague in the Dark Arisen era

Pawns remain central to the expansion. Your existing Main Pawn comes with you to Norgan, while new skills and the broader combat changes give parties additional tactical possibilities.

The wider 2026 update also makes Pawns more proactive. Capcom has added and adjusted behaviors involving grappling enemies, protecting the Arisen, following up attacks, using the environment, reacting more quickly to danger, and exploring on command.

Dragonsplague is also easier to manage thanks to the Dragonsbaulk Draught. Capcom has simultaneously made infected Pawns more effective in certain combat situations, giving the condition a clearer risk-and-reward identity instead of making it something players only want to eliminate immediately.

The cycle begins again

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has always been at its best when a simple plan turns into a ridiculous story about a Pawn, a Griffin, a broken bridge, and a journey that took three times longer than expected.

Dark Arisen looks designed to give that structure considerably more room to breathe. Norgan adds a fresh destination, the Lost Rites give experienced Arisen new challenges in familiar lands, and the expanded Vocation systems provide a good excuse to rethink builds that may have been settled since 2024.

For returning players, October 9 is the date to watch. For newcomers, the road to Norgan starts with the Dragon taking your heart.
