So we did the next best thing: divided everything into groups of 10 titles at most, and linked to each set instead of linking each game.

This is, indeed, not a ranking, just the best way to organize things, more or less in the order of appearance during the show. Let’s get into it!

Nodusfall

miHoYo opened the main show with a darker fantasy project than players may expect from the studio. Nodusfall is a co-op action game built around dangerous creatures, ruined landscapes, and mythic-looking enemies.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics

Rainbow Six takes a turn-based route with a tactical game built around familiar Operators, gadgets, positioning, and carefully planned squad actions.

Gears of War: E-Day

E-Day returns to the beginning of the Locust War with younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. The prequel leans harder into horror while retaining the heavy cover-based combat associated with Gears.

Mega Man: Dual Override

Mega Man’s next mainline adventure showed its new Override mechanics, Custom Chips, familiar precision platforming, and playable Proto Man.

Rayman Legends Retold

Rayman’s return reworks Legends with new visuals, additional stages, an extra realm, and four-player local co-op.

PUBG: DED.NET

DED.NET takes PUBG into 1990s Cascadia with multiplayer FPS combat mixed with run-based roguelite progression.

CONTROL Resonant

Dylan Faden replaces Jesse as the playable lead in a Manhattan distorted by paranatural forces. Combat now revolves heavily around the shapeshifting Aberrant melee weapon.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

Rebel Wolves gave its vampire RPG another major showing just before launch. Coen has 30 days and nights to pursue his goals, with his human and vampiric abilities changing depending on the time of day.

The strategy game showed more large-scale warfare and alternate outcomes for the familiar conflicts between the great houses of Westeros.

DUST: Origins

DUST: Origins is an isometric action-horror game set aboard a collapsing orbital prison. Survival depends on scarce resources, exploration, and decisions that can alter how an escape attempt unfolds.

EXODUS

The science-fiction RPG received another cinematic showcase centered on Jun Aslan’s journeys across distant worlds and the consequences of relativistic time dilation.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons

Invoke showed substantial gameplay from its D&D action adventure, including spellcasting, traversal, puzzles, and close-range combat. There are also snippets of the story, like the appearance of the notorious witch Tasha, acting as the titular warlock’s patron.

1001 Threads of Mizan

This one-to-three-player action adventure draws on Arabian folklore with large jinn, co-op combat, and fantasy landscapes inspired by One Thousand and One Nights. It’s a rarely tapped source of cultural inspirations, so it might be quite interesting.

Silver Palace: House of Greed

Silver Palace revealed House of Greed, its first announced multiplayer content, while retaining the detective RPG’s flashy combat and lavish urban setting.

Monster Hunter Outlanders

The mobile Monster Hunter project introduced more characters while showing exploration, tracking, gathering, and the large-creature battles the series is built around.

Metro 2039

Metro returned to post-apocalyptic Moscow with another grim look at scarce ammunition, hostile factions, mutants, and life beneath the ruined surface.

HITMAN World of Assassination: The Herbalist

Snoop Dogg becomes Agent 47’s latest celebrity target in The Herbalist, a limited-time Elusive Target available from August 27 through September 26.

miHoYo’s cozy life sim showed farming, decorating, cooking, exploration, and an assortment of very cheerful neighbors.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2

The squad-based Xenomorph shooter received its launch trailer, promising another campaign of co-op gunfights against increasingly unreasonable numbers of aliens.

1666: Amsterdam

The supernatural action adventure entered Early Access during the show. Its 17th-century Amsterdam mixes occult abilities, investigation, stealth, and supernatural creatures hidden among ordinary citizens.

Road Kings

The heavy-trucking simulation received a firm release date and another showcase of cargo hauling, difficult roads, and career progression.

Stage Tour

Stage Tour wants plastic instruments back in living rooms with guitar, drum, and vocal gameplay built around a large licensed soundtrack.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour

Crazy Taxi’s comeback showed more of its multiplayer side while keeping the series focused on ridiculous speed, reckless shortcuts, and demanding passengers.

Turok: Origins

The revived dinosaur shooter showed more of its story, alien technology, third-person combat, and cooperative gameplay.

GRAVHOUNDS

Up to four players land on hostile planets, gather materials, establish bases, and attempt to escape before alien swarms overwhelm them.

LEGO Skylines

Iceflake Studios is applying its city-building experience to LEGO, with modular construction and colorful urban management built around familiar bricks. Lego City revival? Not really, but close enough.

Transport Fever 3

The transport-management sequel locked down its September release while showing more road, rail, air, and sea infrastructure.

Exterminauts

Exterminauts is a co-op shooter about teams clearing alien infestations through loud, chaotic firefights.

Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 finally received a date for its full 1.0 launch. The milestone takes the action RPG out of Early Access and expands its enormous build-crafting and endgame systems further.

The strategy classic is being rebuilt with modern presentation while retaining its recognizable heroes, armies, map exploration, and turn-based battles.

NO LAW

Neon Giant showed more of its cybergrunge first-person shooter, combining heavy gunplay with RPG elements in another densely designed science-fiction world.

Project ZETA

Project ZETA appeared during the rapid-fire portion of the show with another brief look at its hero-driven tactical shooter combat.

CINDER CITY

CINDER CITY showed more tactical shooting across ruined near-future city environments, with online systems built around a much larger persistent conflict.

ONTOS

Frictional showed gameplay from its science-fiction mystery, with environmental storytelling, exploration, and psychological horror taking center stage. The trailer certainly lives up to the horror’s of the studio’s previous games.

Pony Island 2: Panda Circus

Daniel Mullins’ latest meta-game received a release date alongside more deliberately broken interfaces, genre shifts, and fourth-wall abuse.

Zoopunk

Zoopunk combines dieselpunk environments, anthropomorphic heroes, and fast third-person action RPG combat. Might it run where Biomutant walked?

There Are No Ghosts at the Grand

The musical adventure combines hotel renovation during the day with supernatural investigation after dark for a pretty intriguing and entertaining mix.

Roco Kingdom

The creature-collecting RPG combines an open world, magical academy life, hundreds of creatures, and turn-based battles. There’s always more space for another creature-collector.

The Defiant

The Defiant received another short first-person action showcase emphasizing cinematic wartime combat.

TARAE: The Unbound

TARAE is a top-down action RPG with six classes, Eastern dark-fantasy environments, large groups of enemies, bosses, co-op, and PvP. Looks like a Diablo formula freed from Eurofantasy trappings.

#51-54

Like or Die

Like or Die was one of the late-show rapid-fire reveals, introducing its first-person action with a brief debut trailer.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation

The final game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy received one of the night’s biggest trailers. The new footage put the Weapons front and center while showing more of the expanded world, Highwind traversal, and the battles facing Cloud’s party.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered

CD PROJEKT RED announced a substantial modernization of The Witcher 3. Remastered upgrades visuals and performance while also revisiting combat, movement, Roach handling, monster behavior, Witcher Signs, the skill tree, finishers, transmogrification, and photo mode.

The upgrade is free for qualifying existing owners, and Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are now included for owners of the base game at no additional cost.

Geralt’s next expansion sends him to Letten, Dandelion’s homeland, where a peaceful rural society is hiding something considerably less pleasant beneath the surface.

Lots of great stuff

This year’s Gamescom was chock full of cool reveals, updates, and promises, so all we can do now is wait to see them all come to fruition. Even the remakes and remasters are somehow something to look forward to, which isn’t always the case!
