2027 is already shaping up to be a busy year for major releases. February alone is currently scheduled to bring Metro 2039, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, God of War Laufey, Persona 4 Revival, and Fable within less than three weeks of each other.
The rest of the year is hardly quiet. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will close Square Enix’s Remake trilogy in April, Kingdom Hearts IV is targeting late 2027, and Ubisoft is continuing development on the darker Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE, although that game still does not have an official release window.
Some dates will inevitably move, especially this far from launch. But based on what publishers have officially confirmed as of October 2026, these are eight of the biggest games worth watching as 2027 approaches.
The busiest stretch: five games on this list are currently scheduled between February 4 and February 23, 2027. If those dates hold, the year is going to start fast.

Metro 2039

Metro 2039 brings 4A Games back to post-apocalyptic Moscow on February 4. This time, however, the political situation underground looks very different.
Hunter, the Spartan Ranger from Metro 2033, now leads the Novoreich, an authoritarian regime that has unified much of the Metro through propaganda and fear. The player instead follows a new protagonist known as the Stranger, who is forced out of isolation and back toward the tunnels he had tried to leave behind.
The familiar Metro mixture remains: exploration, survival, stealth, combat, hostile environments, and a strong single-player narrative. What makes 2039 especially interesting is the shift in perspective. The threat is no longer just what lives outside human settlements. It is also what humanity has turned into underground.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is not a new Lara Croft story. Instead, Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are rebuilding her original 1996 adventure for modern hardware.
The Scion hunt still takes Lara through locations inspired by Peru, Greece, Egypt, and the Mediterranean, but the environments and puzzles have been substantially redesigned. Familiar areas are larger and more interconnected, while Unreal Engine 5 gives the original adventure a completely different visual scale.
The important part is that this is more than a visual remaster. Crystal Dynamics describes it as a reimagining with modern game design, new paths, redesigned puzzles, expanded spaces, and new surprises built around the structure of Lara’s debut.

God of War Laufey

Santa Monica Studio is making one of the more unexpected franchise shifts of 2027. God of War Laufey puts Faye, Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, in the lead role for the next mainline God of War game.
The story begins after Faye’s death. She awakens in the Everywhen, described as the afterlife of the gods, and discovers that the plans she left behind to protect Kratos and Atreus are in danger.
Faye also plays very differently from Kratos. Santa Monica has built her combat around speed, mobility, and momentum, including smooth transitions between ground and aerial attacks. Her Jötnar magic can manipulate an enemy’s soul, separating it from the body and opening new ways to build combos.
She carries a sword and the shape-shifting Serpent Bow, while Catalysts alter how she channels the Everywhen’s magic. The result still draws from modern God of War combat, but with more of the mobility associated with the older Greek games.
Persona 4 Revival

Persona 4 Revival returns to Inaba with a full remake of Persona 4 Golden. The murder mystery, Midnight Channel, school calendar, Social Links, and turn-based battles remain at its core, but Atlus is rebuilding the presentation and updating several systems.
Combat now includes revised mechanics such as guarding that can stun attacking Shadows, while exploration lets players strike first or avoid enemies. Outside the TV World, time management remains central: studying, jobs, clubs, relationships, weather, and story events all compete for the limited days on the calendar.
Most platforms launch on February 18, including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, and Game Pass. Nintendo Switch 2 gets its version later, on May 20, 2027.

Fable

Playground Games’ Fable reboot now has a firm February 23 release date after moving out of 2026.
The new game returns to Albion with a customizable Hero and an open world built around combat, reputation, relationships, work, property, and choices that affect how people respond to you. Playground is also bringing back familiar parts of the series, including Demon Doors, Hobbes, Balverines, and Jack of Blades.
Perhaps the most interesting part is how much of the old Fable identity the studio is preserving beyond combat. Players can work as a blacksmith, become a landlord, form relationships, have children, and build a reputation across Albion. That everyday-life layer was always part of what made Fable stranger than a standard fantasy RPG.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Final Fantasy VII Revelation closes the trilogy that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake. Square Enix has now locked the finale in for April 8, 2027.
Cloud and the party face the final stage of the conflict with Sephiroth as Meteor threatens the planet and the Weapons awaken. The game expands the world again, this time adding airship travel that lets the party take to the skies and explore the planet on a larger scale.
The importance of Revelation goes beyond being another major RPG release. It has to conclude a reinterpretation of Final Fantasy VII that Square Enix has been building across three enormous games, while resolving the changes and unanswered questions created by Remake and Rebirth.
Kingdom Hearts IV

Kingdom Hearts IV finally has an official release window: late 2027.
Sora awakens in Quadratum, a modern city resembling Tokyo, while Donald and Goofy search elsewhere for clues that could help them find him. Square Enix has also confirmed that Sora will once again travel through Disney and Pixar worlds, with Coco now officially part of the lineup.
The D23 footage also revealed more playable variety than earlier material suggested. Donald and Goofy get their own action sequences, Mickey has an exploration section, and Sora’s combat adds a new Build system alongside magic and Keyblade-specific abilities.
After such a long gap between major numbered entries, simply having a confirmed 2027 window makes Kingdom Hearts IV one of the year’s biggest RPG releases to watch.
Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE is the 2027 wildcard
Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE needs an asterisk on any 2027 list because Ubisoft still has not announced an official release date or platform lineup.
What Ubisoft has confirmed is that Ubisoft Montreal is building a darker, more narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience set during a pivotal historical period. The studio has repeatedly emphasized that HEXE is intended to feel different from the large open-world RPG direction represented by Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
The project’s imagery and outside reporting have long connected it with European witch trials, but Ubisoft still has not formally confirmed those more specific setting details. Reports have also pointed toward a possible late-2027 launch, but that remains unofficial.
So HEXE belongs here as a game to watch during 2027, not as a confirmed 2027 release.

2027 already has a crowded calendar
The most striking thing about 2027 is how quickly the schedule becomes crowded. Five of these games are currently packed into February, and they range from survival horror and post-apocalyptic shooting to JRPGs and open-world fantasy.
Then comes Final Fantasy VII Revelation in April, followed later in the year by Kingdom Hearts IV. Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE could make the calendar even heavier if Ubisoft ultimately confirms a 2027 launch.
There is plenty of time for dates to move, and some of them probably will. But even without counting games that have not yet been announced, 2027 already has several releases capable of dominating their part of the year.
