The guide contains some spoilers that may take away from your Fallout 4 experience. If you wish to discover all interactions with Curie on your own, consider bookmarking this guide and coming back later, once you find yourself stuck after exhausting all possibilities you could’ve thought of.

Who is Curie in Fallout 4?

Curie is a robot of a Miss Nanny type. Her name is actually an acronym that stands for Contagions Vulnerability Robotic Infirmary Engineer – CVRIE. Designed to be a guardian of Vault 81, Curie was responsible for providing scientists with support in tasks related to preserving all the knowledge gathered within the vault.

At first, she was merely a simple general-purpose construction and maintenance unit but was later modified and upgraded to a fully-capable lab assistant. Loaded with a human-like personality and knowledge of famous figures such as Kant, Einstein, and Darwin, Curie had an important role to play in developing a miraculous cure that was meant to help humanity.

Naïve but warmly welcoming and polite to everyone, Curie is entirely focused on research and gathering more data to help her achieve her goals and do something good and meaningful for the people.

Benefits: Is Curie Worth Your Time?

If equipped with the right gear, Curie can be considered one of the most powerful allies you can find in Fallout 4, thus making her a valuable target if you’re looking for a great companion. This is only true for her synth form, though, which means you’ll have to go through some extra questing to help her obtain a human-like appearance before she can unlock her full combat potential. She has a lot of health but can also pack a punch – you won’t regret having her by your side. On top of that, once you max out her affinity, she’ll heal you for 100 HP whenever you drop below 10% total health. This effect can be triggered once a day. She’ll also occasionally provide you with stimpaks when you talk to her.

The caveat is that she’s more of a melee fighter, which means that if you prefer to take enemies down from a safe distance, she may be a suboptimal choice.

Other than that, she has a very pretty voice, speaks with a French accent, and has a very likable personality, making her a reliable partner who’s able to not only prove her worth on the battlefield but also cheer you up with her aura of positiveness. She is also one of the possible candidates for developing a romantic relationship.

How to Find and Recruit Curie?

If you’re wondering where to find Curie in Fallout 4, you’ll meet her during the side quest Hole in the Wall in Vault 81. The quest will require you to find a cure for a boy bitten by a diseased mole rat. To start the quest, talk to Dr. Penske after donating blood to Dr. Forsythe. You’ll have to leave the vault for a day and possibly complete another quest to advance time before the required Dr. Penske’s dialogue option appears.

During the mission you’ll be confronted with the diseased rats; they’re extremely dangerous, so don’t let them bite you. Otherwise, you’re risking a permanent loss of 10 HP.

Completing the quest will present you with an option to recruit Curie and make her your companion; it doesn’t matter if you choose to save the boy or not.

Curie: Favored Behavior and Interests (Affinity System)

Similarly to all other companions in FO4, Curie can be affected by your actions in a positive or negative way, or, in other cases, she can remain neutral. If you’d like to improve your relationship with her, you’ll need to gain Affinity points by performing actions she approves.

Here’s a list of things that will upset Curie and things that will make her happy. Things that aren’t listed down below won’t affect affinity.

  • Increase affinity by: being nice, being peaceful, giving away an item, healing Dogmeat
  • Decrease affinity by: being mean, being selfish, getting addicted to a chem, stealing and pickpocketing, helping the Railroad and the Institute factions, refusing a settlement quest, flirting with someone else if romanced

Maxing out Curie’s affinity will unlock her companion perk, Combat Medic, which provides an emergency heal once a day whenever you drop below 10% health.

How to Get Curie’s Alternative Body – Synth Form

By default, Curie inhabits a Miss Nanny utility robot. However, you’ll get an option to change that and transfer Curie’s consciousness into a synth body to make her look more like a proper human being.

To do so, you’ll have to complete the Dangerous Minds main story quest and raise affinity with Curie. Once it’s high enough, she’ll ask you for help on the topic of switching bodies; she believes that having a human-like body will help her with her research. To fulfill her wish, you’ll have to find Dr. Amari, a researcher specialized in the human brain; she can be found in the Memory Den, an unmarked recreational establishment located in Goodneighbor in 2287.

For safety reasons, do not side with the Institute before asking Dr. Amari for help. The reason is that Dr. Amari hates the Institute and may refuse to help you if you side with them. According to various sources, it may still be possible to get Dr. Amari to help you, as, reportedly, siding with the Institute bears no consequences in this particular case. If you’re already sided with the Institute, try following our tips as you normally would; perhaps you won’t encounter any issues.

Conclusion

Having companions in Fallout 4, such as Curie, will make your experience more immersive. You will not only get a chance to build relationships, complete extra missions, and interact with characters in unique ways but you’ll also have an option to take your companion with you, making combat encounters more manageable and exploration more fun. It always feels livelier whenever you can bring an ally you can talk to, especially in a hostile, desolate, post-apocalyptic environment.
