Cats are notorious for needing food to live, but also hating 90% of food they get in their bowl. The cats in Mewgenics are not as picky, but they replace that with being ravenous, which means you need a lot of food to keep them ready to rumble.
There are a few ways to do so, and we’re binging you knowledge of them all, but let’s begin with the basics.
Intro to Mewgenics food
Every cat, being a kitten or mature, requires 1 unit of food each daily cycle. It’s manageable when you have only a few, but once your feline menagerie grows, the food shortage become a looming problem.
When you have more Cats than Food, the ones that couldn’t be fed begin Starving. Starvation reduces their stats, which is a problem, but a bigger issue is that if they go another day without food, they will die. The remaining Starving cats will even start eating the corpses, which might result in them acquiring a Necrophage disorder.
Necrophage: At the start of your turn, if there’s a dead body near you, move toward it and eat it. You gain All Stats Up and heal +4 HP.
Quick, temporary solution
If you move some cats outside the house, they won’t consume your food anymore. They still need food and will starve if left without, but this way you can improve your favourite cats’ odds.
WARNING:
if you leave kittens outside, they will disappear on the next day.
How to get more food in Mewgenics
Tracy’s Store
A fairly reliable option is Tracy’s shop, Paw-Mart. She can sell you a pack of 10 Food for 5 coins.
Paw-Mart is available between runs, while coins can be found during runs.
Food from battles
You also earn food from battles, probably the best option for food farming. The harder the battle, the more food you’re going to get, so choosing the hard path and fighting bosses will net you more units.
IMPORTANT: you get the food you earned only when you complete the run and return home. Should you die during the run, you won’t get your loot.
Food from random encounters
During an adventure you might encounter a special event (marked with ‘?’ on the map) which might net you some food if you make the relevant choices and your cat’s stats are enough to clear the skillcheck.
Encountering these events and their rewards is chance-based, so it’s not a reliable source.
Food Storage Box
By default, you can only store up to 100 units of food, and there’s no fridge to store any overflow.
You can, however, increase the food cap by unlocking additional boxes. To do so, you will need to give Tracy (of the Paw-Mart) 10 cats at least five years old (enough to reach the next reward tier). It will unlock the ability to purchase an additional Food Storage Box. It costs 100 coins and will increase your capacity by 40.
There is a rotation of special items on offer, so if you don’t get the Food Storage Box right away, keep donating the cats and it will appear.
Mewgenics food tl;dr
- You can buy food from Tracy, earn in battle, and find during random encounters
- You can only store 100 units at a time, unless you buy a Food Storage Box for a +40
- You need 1 Food per cat per day – keep your eye on the population and your food supply
- If you have lots of Coins and little Food, you can rely on Tracy’s supplies in a pinch
- Unfed cats begin Starving, and will die after one day with the status
- Starving cats will eat the dead, might acquire Necrophage condition.
- Cats left outside don’t consume your Food storage, but still need food to survive.
- Leaving Kittens outside makes them disappear, like a reverse cat distribution system
