Silent Hill f is looking wild, moving the action over to Japan and focusing much more on combat than last year’s Silent Hill 2 remake.
But aside from the scare factor, there’s real good news for anyone who jumps between systems, especially if you’re using Xbox or a gaming PC.
Silent Hill F is launching with a practical feature on Microsoft platforms: Xbox Play Anywhere. This is one of the more useful features confirmed for this game.
The Silent Hill 2 Crossplay Situation (Why Silent Hill F Is Different)
Let’s get the bad part out of the way first. The Silent Hill 2 remake is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam. But Konami was clear: that game does not support any form of crossplay between the two.
So if your friends were playing on PlayStation 5 and you were on PC, there was no way to meet up. It may still be a classic game remake, but the split platform experience was a letdown.
Now, Silent Hill F is doing something very different, at least inside the Microsoft ecosystem.
Silent Hill F and the Xbox Play Anywhere Setup
If you haven’t used it before, Xbox Play Anywhere links purchases between Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. It is a cross-buy and cross-ownership feature.
For Silent Hill F, this means if you buy the game on Xbox Series X or Series S, you also get the Windows PC version. Same the other way around. You only pay once and can play on both. Silent Hill F has been confirmed for Xbox Series X, Series S, and the Windows Store version on PC. It is also coming to PlayStation 5, but Xbox Play Anywhere only applies to the Microsoft ecosystem.
Some players are hoping it will also get support for Xbox Cloud Gaming. That would let you stream the game to almost any device. It is not confirmed, but it would make a big difference.
What It Means for Save Files (Cross Progression)
This is where Xbox Play Anywhere goes from a nice bonus to something more important. Silent Hill F will include full save file sharing between Xbox and Windows PC.
If you play on your Series X one night, then switch to your gaming laptop or portable console like the ASUS ROG Ally the next day, your progress carries over automatically. You will pick up right where you left off. No manual transfers and no syncing steps are required. The save is shared and always up to date.
This is especially useful if you are using a high end PC setup at home and a handheld device on the go. Being able to switch like this makes the Xbox and PC combo very appealing. More Japanese publishers seem to be embracing these features, possibly because of the popularity of mobile gaming. Resident Evil remakes already support this type of system. It’s good to see Konami following suit with Silent Hill F.
Silent Hill F releases on September 26, 2025. Xbox Play Anywhere and shared progression are a solid reason to consider the Microsoft version. Where are you planning to play first?
