If you want to befriend Marnie in Stardew Valley, her best gifts are Diamond, Farmer’s Lunch, Pink Cake, Pumpkin Pie, Stardrop Tea, and other Universal Loves. Her birthday is Fall 18, making it the best day to give her a loved gift because birthday gifts receive an 8× friendship multiplier.
Marnie is also one of the villagers you will regularly meet during normal farm progression. She runs Marnie’s Ranch, sells livestock and animal supplies, and has friendship events involving her goats, Mayor Lewis, and two cooking recipes.

Who is Marnie?
Marnie runs Marnie’s Ranch in the northeast of Cindersap Forest, close to the southwest entrance to Pelican Town. She lives there with her niece Jas and nephew Shane.
Her ranch is an important location for livestock-focused farms because she sells animals and supplies used to care for them. Players who raise chickens, cows, goats, pigs, sheep, ducks, rabbits, or other livestock will end up visiting her regularly.
Marnie is also closely connected to Mayor Lewis, and increasing friendship with her reveals more about their relationship through one of her later heart events.

Where to find Marnie and shop hours
Marnie operates her shop at Marnie’s Ranch from 9am to 4pm on most days. The shop is normally closed on Monday and Tuesday, although the ranch building itself remains accessible.
Shop hours: 9am to 4pm
Normally closed: Monday and Tuesday
Ranch building: Accessible from 9am to 6pm even when the shop is closed
Regular evenings: Marnie often heads to the Stardrop Saloon after closing the shop
Mondays and Tuesdays are the main source of frustration if you arrive expecting to buy an animal. On Monday, Marnie visits Pierre’s General Store before returning home. On Tuesday, she attends the exercise class there with several other villagers.
Her schedule can also change for festivals, clinic visits, rainy days, and trips to Ginger Island after the Beach Resort has been unlocked.
Marnie’s loved gifts
Loved gifts give Marnie the largest normal friendship increase. You can give her up to two regular gifts per week, plus an additional gift on her birthday even if you have already reached the weekly limit.
Diamond: Found while mining and from several other sources. A strong repeatable option once you have a reliable supply.
Farmer’s Lunch: Cooked using an Omelet and Parsnip.
Pink Cake: Cooked with Melon, Wheat Flour, Sugar, and Egg.
Pumpkin Pie: Cooked with Pumpkin, Wheat Flour, Milk, and Sugar.
Stardrop Tea and Universal Loves: Marnie also loves the game’s Universal Love items unless a specific exception applies.
Best birthday choice: Give Marnie a loved gift on Fall 18 whenever possible. Birthday gifts receive an 8× friendship multiplier, making this far more valuable than an ordinary gift.
Best repeatable option: Diamond is convenient once you have access to a steady supply. Earlier in the game, it may be more economical to save Diamonds for her birthday and use liked gifts during ordinary weeks.
Marnie’s liked gifts
If you do not want to spend valuable loved items on Marnie every week, she has plenty of easier liked options.
- Quartz
- Stardew Valley Almanac
- All Milk
- Most Eggs, excluding Void Egg and items that are not treated as Eggs by the gift system
- Universal Likes, apart from her specific exceptions
Quartz is one of the easiest early-game options because it is common in the Mines and does not require cooking. Milk also becomes an obvious choice once your own livestock operation is established.
Marnie’s disliked gifts
Marnie dislikes most Universal Dislikes, with Clay being an important exception because she hates it instead.
Her specific disliked gifts also include:
- Salmonberry
- Seaweed
- Wild Horseradish
Random forage is therefore not always a safe choice for Marnie. Quartz, Milk, or a normal Egg is usually a much better low-cost fallback.
Marnie’s hated gifts
Hated gifts cause the biggest normal friendship penalty, so avoid giving Marnie the following:
- Clay
- Holly
- Universal Hates, apart from Seaweed, which she merely dislikes
If you are unsure about an item, it is safer to stick to something established like Quartz instead of experimenting with random forage or materials.
Why it’s worth befriending Marnie
Friendship with Marnie does not unlock cheaper livestock or give you better access to her shop. Her animals and supplies remain part of the normal ranch system regardless of friendship level.
The real rewards are her events, recipes, occasional mail gifts, and additional character scenes involving the people around Pelican Town.
- Unlock the Pale Broth recipe at three hearts.
- Unlock the Rhubarb Pie recipe at seven hearts.
- Receive occasional Hay in the mail once you have friendship with her.
- Unlock her Cave Carrot event.
- See the six-heart event involving Marnie and Mayor Lewis.
Marnie’s heart events
Increasing friendship with Marnie unlocks several events and recipes.
Three hearts: Marnie’s Request
After reaching three hearts, leave your farmhouse during the morning and Marnie can visit to explain that she is trying to train her goats. She asks you to bring her a Cave Carrot.
Bring a Cave Carrot to Marnie’s Ranch between 9am and 5pm to trigger the event. Completing the request grants 100 friendship points with Marnie.
Three hearts: Pale Broth recipe
After reaching three hearts, Marnie also sends the Pale Broth recipe through the mail.
Six hearts: Marnie and Lewis
Once both Marnie and Mayor Lewis are at six hearts, enter Pelican Town on a sunny day between 7pm and 11pm.
You discover the two discussing their secret relationship. Lewis then asks whether you overheard them.
Promise to keep it secret: +50 friendship with Lewis.
Say you will tell everyone: -100 friendship with Lewis.
The dialogue choice affects Lewis rather than Marnie, so the original advice that it changes your relationship with Marnie was misleading.
Seven hearts: Rhubarb Pie recipe
At seven hearts, Marnie sends the Rhubarb Pie recipe through the mail.
Tips for fast friendship with Marnie
The fastest way to befriend Marnie is to combine regular conversation with two good gifts every week and make the most of her birthday.
- Give her up to two gifts each week.
- Use loved gifts whenever you can spare them.
- Use Quartz, Milk, or Eggs as easier liked alternatives.
- Save a loved gift for Fall 18 because birthday gifts receive an 8× multiplier.
- Talk to her whenever you visit the ranch.
- Complete Marnie’s Cave Carrot request for 100 friendship points.
- Complete Help Wanted requests from Marnie when they appear for additional friendship.
