Nintendo Switch 2 is officially getting more expensive in the UK. Starting September 1, 2026, Nintendo Store will raise the price of the console from £395.99 to £419.99.
That is a £24 increase little more than a year after launch, and the UK is joining a wider round of Switch 2 price hikes affecting Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, and other markets.

Nintendo Switch 2 will cost £419.99 in the UK
Nintendo Store UK has confirmed that the standard Nintendo Switch 2 price will increase from £395.99 to £419.99 on September 1, 2026.
That is a £24 increase, or roughly 6.1% over the original UK launch price.
The Republic of Ireland is getting the already announced European adjustment at the same time, moving from €469.99 to €499.99.
One detail is worth stressing: Nintendo’s latest UK announcement specifically confirms the revised price of the standard Switch 2 console. It does not provide a new UK price for every existing hardware bundle, so retailers may handle bundles differently.
How the UK Switch 2 price increase compares globally
The UK increase is actually milder than several of Nintendo’s other 2026 hardware adjustments.
The UK adjustment is therefore relatively restrained compared with the $50 US increase or the much larger change in New Zealand.
Why is Nintendo raising the Switch 2 price?
Nintendo’s official explanation is deliberately broad.
The company says the revision is a response to “various changes in market conditions” that it expects to continue over the medium to long term.
That wording can cover a lot of ground, including manufacturing, components, currencies, logistics, and wider economic conditions. Nintendo has not publicly broken the £24 UK increase down into individual causes, so claims that one specific component or tariff is solely responsible would go beyond what the company has confirmed.
The important point is that this is part of a global pricing strategy, not an isolated UK adjustment.
Switch 2 is still selling strongly
The timing is interesting because Nintendo is not raising the price of a struggling console.
According to Nintendo’s latest financial data, Switch 2 had reached 23.68 million worldwide hardware sales by June 30, 2026.
It sold another 3.82 million systems between April and June 2026 alone, while Switch 2 software reached 58.17 million lifetime units by the end of that quarter.
Mario Kart World remains the machine’s biggest software hit, with Nintendo reporting 15.39 million copies sold by June 30.
In other words, Nintendo appears willing to increase hardware pricing while demand remains healthy.
What about the revised European Nintendo Switch 2?
There is another Switch 2 hardware story happening at almost exactly the same time, but the two should not be confused.
Nintendo has confirmed that revised Switch 2 systems will begin appearing in Europe from autumn 2026 to comply with upcoming battery regulations.
Those consoles will include a user-replaceable battery. Nintendo says there is no functional difference compared with the current machine.
The revised console’s battery is listed at 5172mAh instead of the current 5220mAh, while the system becomes slightly heavier. The included Joy-Con 2 controllers will also move to replaceable batteries.
Nintendo has not said the UK price increase is caused by this hardware revision. The company describes the revision as a regulatory change, not a performance upgrade.

Should you buy a Switch 2 before September 1?
If you were already planning to buy one at Nintendo’s official UK price, the maths is easy: purchasing before September 1 avoids the £24 increase.
But MSRP is not the same thing as the cheapest retail price.
Retailers can set their own prices, run promotions, or continue selling existing stock below Nintendo Store pricing. That means bargain hunters should still compare stores instead of assuming £419.99 will instantly become the cheapest available price everywhere.
The hardware itself also has not suddenly become different. Switch 2 still offers its 7.9-inch 1080p display, up to 120 fps in compatible games, up to 4K output through the dock, magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers with mouse functionality, 256GB of storage, backward compatibility, and GameChat.
If you have been waiting specifically for the European user-replaceable battery revision, however, buying immediately may be less attractive. Nintendo expects those revised systems to begin appearing from autumn.

Nintendo Switch 2 UK price increase FAQ
What is the new Nintendo Switch 2 price in the UK?
The standard Nintendo Switch 2 will cost £419.99 on Nintendo Store UK from September 1, 2026. The previous price is £395.99.
How much is the Switch 2 UK price increasing?
The increase is £24, which works out to roughly 6.1%.
Why is Nintendo increasing the Switch 2 price?
Nintendo says the decision reflects changes in market conditions expected to continue over the medium to long term. It has not publicly attributed the UK increase to one specific cost.
Will Nintendo Switch 2 games also become more expensive on September 1?
This announcement concerns the Switch 2 hardware price. Nintendo has made separate changes to software pricing in 2026, but the September 1 UK announcement does not introduce a blanket price increase for Switch 2 games.
Is a new Switch 2 model coming to Europe?
Yes, but it is not a performance upgrade. Nintendo is introducing revised European models with user-replaceable batteries to meet upcoming battery regulations.
Should I buy a Switch 2 before September 1?
If you already planned to pay Nintendo’s current UK MSRP, buying before September 1 avoids the £24 increase. Retailers can still set their own prices, so compare current deals before deciding.
One last lap at £395.99
Nintendo has finally filled in the missing piece of its global Switch 2 price increase, and UK players escaped with a smaller jump than some other regions.
Still, a console becoming more expensive after launch never feels particularly nostalgic for the good old days when hardware was expected to get cheaper over time.
The interesting part is what happens next. Switch 2 is selling strongly, Nintendo keeps expanding the software lineup, and revised hardware with easier battery replacement is on the way in Europe.
For anyone already convinced, September 1 is now an obvious date to circle. For everyone else, £419.99 makes the question of whether Nintendo’s exclusives and hybrid design justify the price just a little harder.
