Main Story Length
According to HowLongToBeat.com, the original Silent Hill 2’s main story takes about 8 hours. This time changes dramatically for the Remake, which will offer around 16-18 hours on average.
That, of course, may change depending on the preferred difficulty settings or the player’s experience. Nevertheless, we can expect an adventure in the terrifying world of Silent Hill twice as long!
Additional Content
How about extras? The original SH2 required 9.5 hours for the main story with side quests. On the other hand, the completionist approach means approximately 15 hours.
In the Silent Hill Remake’s case, the main story with side activities can take between 18 and 20 hours.
Where did we get these numbers? As Mateusz Lenart replied to his fans on Twitter: “If you like to spend your time searching for everything that we put into the game and things we’ve hidden for you, it will take you more than 20h for sure! I’m not counting the new game plus and all endings of course. I’m curious how fast you will get all of them.” – source: https://x.com/Mateusz_Lenart
Since we know the completionist approach requires over 20 hours, we can only wonder what this number means. This time may vary significantly considering new puzzles, Easter eggs, or secret areas. But one thing is for sure – the new title will be epically replayable.
Comparison With Other Horrors
How does SH 2 Remake compare to other horror titles? Resident Evil 4 Remake’s main story is around 16 hours long, while the completionist approach requires approximately 62 hours. That’s a lot, but let’s remember that Silent Hill hasn’t said its last word yet.
Another Bloober Team game, Layers of Fear, has 9 hours of the main story, 13,5 with side quests, and approximately 17 in the completionist approach. Similarly, Observer requires only 7 hours in the main story and less than 12 in the completionist approach.
Conclusion
Thanks to Mateusz Lenart’s active contact with fans, we already know Silent Hill 2 Remake offers around 17 hours of casual gameplay and over 20 in completionist approach.
That’s quite a lot comparing this title to the original playthrough or other Bloober Team’s video games – but given the studio’s experience, we can expect highly replayable and captivating gameplay.
