Final Fantasy VII Remake vs Rebirth — What’s the Difference?
One of the most common questions from newcomers is whether Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are the same game.
They aren’t.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Released first, Remake completely reimagines the iconic Midgar section of the original 1997 RPG.
It introduces real-time action combat, expanded storylines, new character interactions, and modern visuals while remaining faithful to the world fans know and love.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Rebirth continues the story immediately after the events of Remake.
The world opens up dramatically, offering massive regions to explore, dozens of side activities, deeper combat mechanics, and new party members.
| Game | Focus |
|---|---|
| Final Fantasy VII Remake | Midgar, story introduction, character development |
| Final Fantasy VII Rebirth | Open-world exploration, expanded combat, continuation of the story |
Should You Play Remake Before Rebirth?
Absolutely.
While Rebirth includes story summaries, it’s designed as a direct sequel. Playing Remake first allows you to understand the characters, world, and emotional moments that shape the second game.
The recommended order is simple:
- Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- The third game of the remake trilogy (when released)
That’s another reason why the Twin Pack is such an attractive purchase—it already includes the correct starting point.
