Combat in Pragmata revolves around coordination between Hugh and Diana. Enemies inside the lunar facility rely on heavy armor that blocks most incoming damage. Direct gunfire does very little at first, which means a player who keeps shooting will burn through ammunition with little effect.

Progress in a fight depends on Diana’s ability to break those defenses through a hacking sequence. This mechanic forms the backbone of every encounter and forces players to treat combat as a combined process rather than simple shooting.

PRAGMATA

Release Date: April 17, 2026

Genres: Shooter, Adventure

When a hack begins, the player shifts to an interface that represents the enemy system. A cursor moves along connected tiles across the board. The goal is simple: the path must reach a green endpoint. Once the cursor reaches that tile, Diana interrupts the enemy defenses and exposes a weak point. At that moment Hugh can deal meaningful damage.

The transition from hacking to shooting happens quickly, so the player must move between the puzzle and the firefight without hesitation.

TL;DR — Pragmata Combat System
  • Enemies are protected by heavy armor that blocks most direct damage.
  • Diana must hack enemy systems to expose weak points.
  • Players solve a grid puzzle to break defenses.
  • Once exposed, Hugh deals damage using his weapons.
  • Combat revolves around timing, positioning, and quick decisions.

How to Hack in Pragmata

The hacking grid rarely offers a single straight route. It’s your decision which nodes to touch before reaching the goal. Blue nodes appear along many routes and provide bonuses that improve the outcome of the hack.

Passing through them increases the damage enemies receive and extends the period during which their weak point remains exposed. Each blue node improves the overall effect, yet collecting them requires a longer path. Every second spent inside the hacking panel is a moment when enemies continue to attack.

This mechanic forces players to make fast decisions in combat. Reaching the green tile immediately disables enemy defenses, yet the effect comes with only a modest bonus. A longer route through several blue nodes strengthens the hack and extends the damage window.

The time required to finish the path becomes the key trade-off.

Taking a longer route keeps you exposed for a longer time, since enemies continue attacking during the hack. A faster path reaches the goal sooner, yet the damage window that follows remains smaller. You need to decide whether to complete the hack immediately or spend extra time collecting bonuses that create a stronger opening for the attack.

Yellow nodes introduce stronger effects and raise the stakes. Moving through one of these nodes activates a powerful modification to the hack. Certain yellow nodes reduce enemy defenses across the board, while others allow Diana to affect several enemies in the same sequence.

When a group of machines surrounds Hugh, a successful hack that affects multiple targets can reshape the fight in seconds. Pursuing a yellow node can pay off, yet it forces the player to follow a longer and more complex route across the board.

How Hacking Supports Hugh’s Combat Role

Once Diana exposes a weak point, Hugh becomes the primary source of damage. He carries several weapons and can switch between them depending on the situation.

Ammunition limits create an important restriction. Many stronger weapons break after their ammunition runs out, which means they cannot be used again during that mission. Firing them before the hack succeeds wastes a valuable resource.

Diana’s hack briefly strips the enemy of its protection and reveals a vulnerable point. Hugh has just enough time to pull out his heavier weapon and make use of the opportunity.

A standard firearm remains available throughout the fight and gradually restores its ammunition over time. This weapon ensures Hugh is never completely defenseless, though its damage falls well below the output of heavier guns.

Environmental Hacking and Exploration

Hacking plays a role outside firefights as well. Parts of the research facility remain sealed by security systems, locked corridors, and electronic barriers that block progress through the station. Diana can access these systems once combat pressure disappears, giving the player time to focus on the puzzle.

Travel across the station relies on the thrusters mounted on Hugh’s suit. Short controlled bursts help him adjust direction in narrow passages or maintain a brief hover when crossing open sections of the facility.

The thruster gauge drains quickly, which forces players to think about movement instead of flying freely from place to place. Poor timing or unnecessary boosts can leave Hugh without enough energy in the middle of traversal.

Exploration can uncover escape hatches placed in different areas of the complex. Activating one adds a fast travel point connected to the shelter, which functions as the central hub.

From there you can return to the station, change equipment, and prepare before continuing deeper into the facility.

Practicing the Minigame Before Release

Capcom has released a browser version of the hacking puzzle on the official Pragmata website. It recreates the basic cursor movement and node routing used in the game, letting players try different paths and see how various bonuses affect the outcome.

The browser version is simplified and does not reflect the full difficulty or enemy pressure you’ll face during actual encounters, but it still gives a clear idea of how the system works.
