While starting an online multiplayer match in Fortnite is rather straightforward, you might wonder how to play the game with a friend sitting right next to you.
Worry not – Fortnite’s couch co-op mode lets you use the split-screen function and play together without the need to pull the game up on separate devices.
Do all versions of Fortnite support local co-op?
The local multiplayer is available for the console version of the game.
As long as you have a spare gamepad, you can team up with a friend locally on your PlayStation or Xbox.
Unfortunately, as of now, the PC and Switch versions don’t support local multiplayer.
How to access Fortnite’s split-screen mode?
To access Fortnite’s local multiplayer, you need to follow these easy steps:
- Open the game’s main lobby while logged into the main user’s account.
- Connect the second pad and log in using the second player’s account. Please note that guest and quick-play accounts are not supported!
- If they haven’t done that already, the second player will be prompted to link their console account to their Epic Games account. This allows the player to access their progress, including their Battle Pass, Locker outfits, and quests.
- Once both players have logged in, make sure you’re both present in the lobby.
- Select a game mode that supports local multiplayer and start your shared game.
What game modes can I play in local co-op?
You can play Fortnite’s Battle Royale, Zero Build, and LEGO modes in couch co-op.
Some creative maps also support local multiplayer – to find them, browse the “Great for Local co-op” tab in Discover.
However, you won’t be able to access Solo, Team Rumble, LTM and Save the World modes with split-screen.
