Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection
Release Date: March 13, 2026
Genres: Role-playing (RPG), Adventure
After spending a lot of time testing how these systems work, this guide was put together to explain one of them in a clearer and more useful way.
TL;DR – Habitat Restoration (HR)
- HR lets you repopulate zones and farm specific monsties
- Unlock it by defeating feral monsters and activating camps
- Releasing monsters increases ecosystem rank (up to S)
- Higher rank = better drops, genes, and stronger spawns
- Use duplicates, elements, and levels to boost rank faster
Introduction to Habitat Restoration
Quick Overview: Habitat Restoration (HR) lets you rebuild ecosystems, control monster spawns, and farm specific monsties more efficiently.
Habitat Restoration, usually abbreviated as HR by the community, is a system focused on rebuilding ecosystems across Azuria and other regions of the map.
The mechanic centers on rehabilitating local habitats and restoring monster populations. Players can reintroduce extinct species into the environment and increase the population of existing monsters they want to encounter more often in the wild.
- Reintroduce extinct species
- Increase spawn rates of selected monsters
- Shape the ecosystem to fit your team build
Monster taming games sometimes include large zones that feel empty or lack a specific monster needed for a team build. The HR system allows players to repopulate environments with both endangered and common monsties by releasing them into designated map areas.
This mechanic affects more than world building or visual immersion. Using it effectively directly improves your chances of obtaining stronger monsties.
Unlocking HR for the Region
Before using Habitat Restoration, players must unlock the feature for the zone they are exploring.
Zones include:
- Sunpetal Plains
- Broadleaf Basin
- Mirror Lake
- Blightstone Woods
Step 1: Find and defeat a feral monster in the area to unlock the campsite.
- Glowing blue particle effect
- Large red icon above their head
- Marked on the map
You might encounter:
- Feral Paolumu (Broadleaf Basin)
- Feral Nerscylla (Mirror Lake)
- Feral Brachydios (Blightstone Woods)
Beating one unlocks the campsite and enables HR in that region.
Core Gameplay Loop:
- Collect eggs from dens
- Hatch them at the hub
- Release selected monsties into the ecosystem
Restoring Endangered Species
Standard monsters are easy to find, but endangered species require a different approach.
How it works:
- Find an Invasive monster
- Fight until it retreats
- Track it to its den
- Clear the den to obtain a crystallized egg
These eggs contain endangered species that can disappear without restoration. Releasing them back into the ecosystem keeps them active in the world.
Ecosystem Rank Benefits
Every monster in a zone has an ecosystem rank ranging from C → S.
Higher rank = better rewards:
- Stronger overworld monsters
- Better drops & more EXP
- Improved gene variants (including rare ones)
- Higher spawn frequency
At S rank, monsters can activate multiple environmental skills simultaneously after awakening the required genes.
Certain species also evolve further based on ecosystem rank. Example:
- Rathian → Pink Rathian → Dreadqueen Rathian
Higher ranks may also introduce hybrid elemental variants, unlocking unique traits and skills.
Increasing the Ecosystem Rank Faster
Best ways to rank up faster:
- Release duplicate monsties (stacking bonus)
- Use elemental synergy (same element = multiplier)
- Release higher-level monsters for more progress
Example: placing fire-type monsters together gives a 1.2x+ multiplier, increasing with more synergy.
Some dens contain two nests — grab both eggs before leaving to maximize efficiency.
Tips for Players
- Only 5 introduced species per zone
- Adding a 6th forces removal
- Use Eco Conservation to lock S-rank species
- Plan around elemental synergy
Habitat Restoration can look messy at first, but once it clicks, it becomes one of the most powerful systems for progression and farming.
