Table of Contents
The Ironclad
“The last soldier of the Ironclads. Crushes foes with sword and flame against his will.”
| Attribute | Details |
|---|---|
| Starting Relic | Burning Blood |
| Starting Cards | Strike x5, Defend x4, Bash |
| Starting Health | 80 |
| Unlock | Available from the start |
Even if you didn’t have to start with the Ironclad, he’d be a good starter character. His Burning Blood relic restores 6 HP after every fight, which adds up quickly during long runs.
The Ironclad is built around Strength scaling and straightforward combat. Stack Strength as high as possible and your attacks will quickly melt enemies.
A popular beginner strategy revolves around Body Slam. This card converts your Block directly into damage. If you stack defensive cards and draw Body Slam at the right moment, you can deal massive hits without relying on Strength.
The Silent
“A huntress from outside the Spire. Ready to stab and poison anything in her way.”
| Attribute | Details |
|---|---|
| Starting Relic | Ring of the Snake |
| Starting Cards | Strike x5, Defend x5, Neutralize, Survivor |
| Starting Health | 70 |
| Unlock | Play a run as the Ironclad |
The Silent relies on finesse rather than brute force. Her gameplay revolves around two primary strategies: Poison builds and Shiv builds.
Poison builds slowly overwhelm enemies by stacking poison damage that bypasses most defenses. Cards like Noxious Fumes help poison enemies every turn while you focus on survival.
Shiv builds focus on generating huge numbers of small attacks. Cards like Blade Dance, Cloak and Dagger, and Accuracy allow you to rapidly throw daggers and overwhelm enemies with sheer volume.
The Regent
“Heir to the Throne of Stars. Wields cosmic powers but his minions do the work.”
| Attribute | Details |
|---|---|
| Starting Relic | Divine Right |
| Starting Cards | Strike x4, Defend x4, Falling Star, Venerate |
| Starting Health | 75 |
| Unlock | Play a run as the Silent |
The Regent introduces a secondary resource called Stars. Unlike Energy, Stars remain stored until spent, allowing you to stockpile them for powerful plays.
Many Regent cards require both Energy and Stars. Managing both resources effectively is the key to mastering the character.
One popular strategy revolves around the Forge mechanic and the powerful card Sovereign Blade, which grows stronger with each upgrade and synergy card.
Alternatively, players can focus on generating massive numbers of Stars and spending them on devastating abilities like Seven Stars.
The Necrobinder
“A Spireborn lich who seeks revenge. Calls upon her trusty left hand, Osty, in combat.”
| Attribute | Details |
|---|---|
| Starting Relic | Bound Phylactery |
| Starting Cards | Strike x4, Defend x4, Bodyguard, Unleash |
| Starting Health | 66 |
| Unlock | Play a run as the Regent |
The Necrobinder automatically summons her companion Osty at the start of each fight. Osty intercepts attacks that would otherwise hit the Necrobinder, acting as a living shield.
Osty starts with only 1 HP but gains more health through Summon effects. If destroyed, it returns at the start of the next turn.
The Necrobinder can follow two main strategies:
- Turn Osty into a powerful damage dealer.
- Stack the Doom debuff, which instantly kills enemies once the stack count exceeds their HP.
The Defect
“An automaton eternally modifying itself to survive. Deploys Orb technology when it must fight.”
| Attribute | Details |
|---|---|
| Starting Relic | Cracked Core |
| Starting Cards | Strike x4, Defend x4, Zap, Dualcast |
| Starting Health | 75 |
| Unlock | Play a run as the Necrobinder |
The Defect returns with its familiar Orb system. Orbs provide passive effects every turn and can be Evoked for powerful active effects.
Common Orb types include:
- Lightning: Random damage each turn.
- Frost: Passive Block generation.
- Dark: Builds damage over time.
- Glass: Team-wide damage that decays each turn.
- Plasma: Generates Energy.
Players can build around passive Orb generation or ignore Orbs entirely and focus on zero-cost attack strategies like Claw builds.
Each character in Slay the Spire 2 introduces a completely different strategic puzzle. Experimenting with builds and mastering each hero’s mechanics is part of what makes the climb through the Spire so addictive.
