STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT Release Date
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT officially launches worldwide on Steam on August 20, 2026.
Depending on your Steam region and local time zone, the store may display August 19 instead. That is why some players will see the game unlock a day earlier on their local store page even though Spike Chunsoft uses August 20 as the official worldwide PC release date.
That makes this the final chance to take advantage of the pre-launch period before reviews, player impressions, route discoveries, and spoilers begin circulating.
The Steam release includes English text from day one, so PC players do not need to wait for a separate localization.
Platforms and Console Release Dates
The original announcement described STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT as a multi-platform release, but the actual rollout is more complicated than first expected.
PlayStation 4 was included in the original Japanese platform announcement, but it is not currently listed on Spike Chunsoft’s Western product page.
What Is New in STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT?
This is not simply the original game running at a higher resolution.
RE:BOOT is built around the scenario structure of STEINS;GATE ELITE, but MAGES. has adjusted the pacing and readability while expanding the script with new dialogue, narrative text, and an entirely new route.
The visual overhaul is equally substantial:
- All character artwork has been redrawn.
- Backgrounds have been recreated from scratch.
- Event stills have been fully rebuilt.
- The game contains roughly twice as many still images as the original Xbox 360 release.
- Background graphics have increased by approximately 20%.
- Character designer huke has redesigned outfits and accessories.
- Akihabara has been reconstructed using real-world reference material from the era.
The presentation also uses E-mote, the animation technology previously used in Anonymous;Code. Instead of characters appearing almost completely static between expressions, subtle movement, breathing, and facial changes make conversations feel more animated.
All voices and music have been redone
The original Japanese voice cast returned to re-record all in-game dialogue.
Series composer Takeshi Abo has also remade the entire soundtrack, meaning even familiar scenes should sound different from the 2009 version.
The Biggest Addition: Gamma Worldline
The most important reason for returning players to pay attention is the new Gamma Worldline.
This is not just an extra conversation or short bonus scene. It is a new route with its own ending.
In Gamma, Rintaro Okabe arrives in a world where the time machine was never completed and D-Mails do not exist. The Future Gadget Laboratory members who should be his closest allies instead react to him with hostility.
The biggest change is psychological. The persona of Hououin Kyouma never existed in this worldline. Instead, Okabe becomes connected to Moeka Kiryu and faces a much darker version of his life defined by isolation and desperation.
For longtime fans, this is the strongest argument that RE:BOOT is more than another visual upgrade. There is genuinely new STEINS;GATE story content here.
Gameplay – The Phone Trigger System Returns
Despite the presentation overhaul, the core structure remains familiar.
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is still a text-driven visual novel where seemingly small choices can push the story toward different outcomes.
- Rintaro’s phone remains central to progression.
- You can respond to or ignore messages and calls.
- Your actions influence character relationships and story branches.
- Multiple endings return.
The expected playtime is approximately 30-50 hours, depending on how many routes and endings you pursue.
On PC, the game requires approximately 9 GB of storage, with 4 GB RAM listed as the minimum and 8 GB recommended.

This makes the launch offer more interesting for existing fans because it includes a second, very different take on the same universe.
