The Last of Us Part II: Remastered has been available for PlayStation 5 users for over a year, but how does it compare to a brand-new release on PC?

PC users had to prove inhuman patience while waiting for the remake of the iconic second installment in the TLoU series. Fortunately, that wait is finally over, and TLoU Part II for PC is here. This event has fans wondering – does the PC port live up to the console original? Does it include any new features, or is it simply a copy of the PS5 version? It’s time to find out!

The Last of Us Part 2 – PC vs Console – What is the Difference?

Graphics

It’s understandable that since the PlayStation 5 console boasts much more hardware power, the PC game version doesn’t look as good as the original. That’s relatively common among console-to-PC ports, as developers do their best to make the title playable on as many computers as possible.

Unlike the PS5 version, TLoU on PC features slightly less vibrant colors and worse detailing. Regarding the console version, the resolution is noticeably better, and the overall experience feels more satisfying. That, however, doesn’t make the game unplayable on PC – quite the opposite!

PC users can freely customize the game’s settings to achieve the highest FPS (frames per second) values and adjust the smoothness, detail, and gameplay quality to their preferences. The new release arrives with a wide range of graphical improvements for PC, full PlayStation DualSense controller integration, Steam achievements, and widescreen and ultrawide support. There’s also HDR support, Direct Storage support, and keyboard and mouse mapping. The two games may differ, but each experience plays perfectly on both platforms.

Story

When it comes to the plot, both game versions are identical. Therefore, like PS5 players, PC users can follow Ellie and Abby’s risky adventures in a world infested with the Cordyceps fungus.

New Content

As the game developers said: “We’re all thrilled to bring The Last of Us Part II to the PC audience, including all the great new features we added in the Remastered version for PS5. We hope players enjoy the captivating story, rich combat mechanics, extensive behind-the-scenes commentary, and test their skills in the roguelike mode No Return. We’re working hard to ensure that the game feels great on this new platform, and has the high performance and robust features that PC players expect.”

Apart from the features introduced in the PS5 version, the PC release adds new content (also available for console users since April 3, 2025). That includes Bill and Marlene, two new playable characters in No Return mode. In addition to ten familiar maps, players can explore four new ones – Overlook, School, Streets, and Nest.

Conclusion

As you can see, both versions offer an identical experience on PC and PS5. The only difference is the graphical quality, which may feel slightly less impressive on PC due to the console gameplay being optimized to the computers’ hardware capabilities. In return, PC players enjoy more options for customizing the game settings according to their preferences and device capabilities.

The new release also adds some content in the form of two playable characters and four maps (available for PS5 users since the PC version’s launch date). Regarding the story, the PC version doesn’t introduce any changes. Let us know what you think and share your observations regarding the differences between these two versions of TLoU Part 2.
