Grand Theft Auto VI
Release date: | 2025 |
Genre: | Action |
Developer: | Rockstar |
The first, and probably the most obvious pick for the list is none other than GTA 6, a game that doesn’t need an introduction, but we’ll do it anyway.
A game with a huge, open-world environment, providing players with an unparalleled amount of freedom and beautiful visuals, filled with Hollywood-class action and captivating story, is a sure recipe for success.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone keeping an eye on the gaming industry; Rockstar proved time and again that they’re able to deliver top-class experiences with their AAA productions, and whenever a new GTA appears on the horizon, the entire world trembles with excitement. It’s been 12 years since GTA V, which marks the longest period of time without any new GTA games in history. But the wait is almost over and we can’t wait to see what’s in the store this time.
Doom: The Dark Ages
Release date: | TBA 2025 |
Genre: | FPS |
Developer: | id Software |
The Doom series received a warmly welcomed reboot back in 2016, bringing the old and loved franchise back to life, but this time with much better graphics that better suit modern gaming standards.
The development team managed to perfectly capture the soul and spirit of the classic games without making sacrifices in the gameplay, and basically made the new Doom a better version of itself in every way possible. The same happened a few years later in 2020 when we got Doom Eternal – slaying hordes of demons in the rhythm of a top-tier metal score never felt so satisfying.
And that’s exactly why we have high hopes for the upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages that’s planned to be released in 2025. It may be difficult to top the almost perfect Doom Eternal’s gameplay formula so perhaps it would be better to not expect too much this time to avoid potential disappointment, but we’re sure it will be a great game, even if it plays differently than its predecessors.
Avowed
Release date: | February 13, 2025 |
Genre: | Action RPG |
Developer: | Obsidian Entertainment |
Most games that appear on this list are here mostly because of the reputation of the studios responsible for their creation, and it’s the same with Avowed, which is being made by the creators of a top-class crowdfunded role-playing game, Pillars of Eternity.
Speaking of which, Avowed is said to take players to the world of Eora, meaning that it will be taking place in the same universe as PoE.
Do not expect a classic top-down RPG this time though; Avowed looks to be more focused on action, allowing players to control their hero in a more direct way and switch between the first- and third-person perspectives for increased immersion, which reminds more of Obsidian’s other game, The Outer Worlds.
On a side note, The Outer Worlds 2 is also scheduled to be released in 2025.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Release date: | 2025-02-28 |
Genre: | Action RPG |
Developer: | CAPCOM |
If you’re wondering what to play in 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to the rescue.
Scheduled to be released as soon as February, it will allow you to once again become a professional hunter who’ll have to face all kinds of mystical beasts and creatures, serving as the ultimate test of strength and knowledge. Sheer power won’t save your skin when fighting monsters that could easily tear your body apart with a single swing; you’ll need to come up with creative strategies and outsmart your prey.
The huge open world in Monster Hunter Wilds is home to dozens of powerful, legendary creatures you’ll have to track and defeat or capture for abundant rewards to help your character grow and become stronger. It won’t be an easy game, that’s for sure, but it will certainly be an exciting one as well.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
Release date: | 2025-02-04 |
Genre: | Action RPG |
Developer: | Warhorse Studios |
2025 will be a fruitful year for fans of action role-playing games.
The original Kingdom Come game provided us with an extremely realistic medieval experience, allowing us to look at things from the perspective of an ordinary man as he slowly gained recognition through his deeds and achievements. Driven by vengeance, the protagonist joins Lord Radzig Kobyla’s resistance forces in hopes of finding the murderers of his father and delivering justice.
The game was praised for its highly accurate representation of the medieval era, which included available weapons, fighting techniques, architecture, and more. As such, we expect the sequel to be an even better version of this amazing, down-to-earth medieval simulation experience.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Release date: | TBA 2025 |
Genre: | Action & Stealth |
Developer: | KONAMI |
Those who love the MGS series probably already know that we’re about to get a remake of MGS 3: Snake Eater from 2004.
It will be a real treat for fans of the franchise who’ll want to relive the past experiences, but also a great way to introduce Metal Gear Solid to a new audience who may be more demanding in terms of visuals and gameplay improvements. People are unwilling to give old games a try, thinking they’re outdated and not fun anymore; remakes are amazing at bringing the classics up to speed with modern standards. It’s also the first chronological game in the series, making it a perfect opportunity to join Naked Snake and dive into the MGS universe.
This one’s not promised to be released in 2025 but that’s the date we’ve got for now. We’re leaving it here as a disclaimer to let you know where we’re at; the game’s release may turn out to be postponed until 2026 or later, so if you’re interested in this one, just keep an eye on the most recent news and announcements.
Light No Fire
Release date: | TBA 2025 |
Genre: | Survival & Adventure |
Developer: | Hello Games |
Light no Fire is going to be a survival experience like no other.
Players will have the opportunity to explore an incredibly huge, open world and make it their own. From building, through crafting, to exploring a variety of biomes with the help of flying mounts, and uncovering the secrets hidden by the mysterious planet – it’s something you wouldn’t want to miss.
The expectations are high because it’s a game made by the creators of No Man’s Sky, who proved that they’re able to make game universes of unprecedented scales. No Man’s Sky features billions upon billions of procedurally generated planets players can theoretically visit and explore, which easily makes NMS the biggest video game world ever created. So, when people, who made that possible, claim that they’re making a game that will take place on a planet of the size of the entire, real-world Earth, you can assume they’re dead serious about it.
Sid Meier's Civilization VII
Release date: | 2025-02-11 |
Genre: | Turn-based Strategy |
Developer: | Firaxis Games |
Soon we’ll also be able to play a brand-new Civilization game. Even though previous games were amazing and some people still love to occasionally return to the absolute classics, such as Civ 2 from 1996, it’s great to see the series being constantly improved and worked on.
Civ 6 brought a lot of new features that made the experience more varied and opened new fun strategies to try during play. As such, we can expect Civ 7 to also come up with certain new solutions to attract both the new players to the series and the most hardcore veterans.
With that being said, no matter how good Civ 7 will be, it will take some time for it to overshadow its predecessors, mainly because of the sheer amount of obtainable DLCs for previous games. Civ 7 may be struggling in terms of available content at the beginning, but give it some time and it may become the next best Civilization game.
Fable (2025)
Release date: | TBA 2025 |
Genre: | Action RPG |
Developer: | Playground Games |
Those who remember Fable may get pleasantly surprised in 2025, thanks to the scheduled release of a new game that is meant to serve as a reboot of the series.
We don’t know too much about this game yet so it may be a completely different experience than the one offered by the original game. If it follows the original formula, we may see the return of the morality system that will change how our character looks and how the world reacts to the protagonist’s actions. As an action RPG, it’s also bound to have some kind of character progression system, and perhaps an open-world environment with beautiful, fantasy landscapes.
Fingers crossed that whatever path the new Fable game takes, it will be able to recreate at least a portion of the charm and beauty for which the 2004 game was known.
Conclusion
2025 looks bright for gamers. We’ve got a lot of cool games to come soon and they’re bound to steal some of your free time in the next few months. Due to the limited space, our list of 2025 video games may seem incomplete, but we’re well aware of all the upcoming releases. Here’s a quick, honorable mention for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ghost of Yotei, Borderlands 4, and Subnautica 2, but there’s still a lot more, so keep your eyes peeled and follow the latest news and announcements to not miss anything.
