Do you like MOBA games? Even better, when you don’t need a high-end PC or the latest gaming console to play them, but only a smartphone?
In that case, you need to check out Mobile Legends! This mobile multiplayer online battle arena game has been growing in popularity for years.
If you haven’t had the chance to play it yet, or you’re a beginner, you’re probably wondering how you can earn the in-game gold in this title. Today, we’ll give you some tips and tricks on how to farm gold quickly in Mobile Legends. Welcome to our beginner’s guide!
About Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, commonly referred to as MLBB, is a game developed and published by the Chinese studio Moonton, released in 2016. This title boasts an astonishing 1.465 billion downloads on mobile devices and nearly 110 million monthly active players in over 80 countries.
The basic mechanics of the game are very similar to the popular League of Legends. It focuses on battles between two teams of 5 players during 10-30 minute matches. Players fight over three lanes to take the enemy’s tower and defend their own while securing objectives. Since the game is a classic MOBA, there is no hero training to level up or pay-to-play angle — winners and losers are decided based on skill, ability, and strategy.
In Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, there are various currencies and resources available. One of them is gold. Earning gold during matches, and more importantly — earning more than your opponents — makes your team stronger, giving you a better chance of winning.
How do you farm gold? What can you do to earn a lot of it quickly and secure a win for yourself and your team? When should you focus on farming, and when should you attack enemy players? Here are some useful tips!
1. Stick to the Golden Lane
The map in the game is divided into three lanes: Top, Middle, and Bottom. The top lane is considered the Golden Lane (while the bottom is the EXP Lane) because the minions appearing there provide more gold than on the other lanes.
If you want to start the game well and ensure additional gold for both your team and yourself, stick to the Golden Lane. Defeating enemy minions in the first minutes of the game while staying on this lane grants players extra resources.
2. Attack in the First Minutes of the Game
Many players, especially beginners, treat the start of the game as a warm-up, waiting for enemy minions to gather on their side of the map or be taken out by their own minions. This is a mistake.
As mentioned above, if you want to effectively farm gold, you must act from the very first minutes of the game. Typically, taking out smaller opponents early on provides extra gold, which immediately gives your team an advantage. It’s also much easier to defeat minions one by one than when they’ve already gathered near your turret.
3. Finish Off Minions
Another common mistake among beginners is attacking minions only to weaken them and allowing their own minions to finish them off. Of course, this method also guarantees gold for your team, but a much smaller amount than if…
… you deliver the finishing blow yourself. Defeating minions rather than just weakening them results in significantly higher profits, reaching several hundred gold in a single successful action.
4. Choose the Right Heroes
If you’re an experienced player, you know that selecting the right hero (or their class) and developing the appropriate skills is crucial for gameplay strategy and achieving the desired outcomes.
In Mobile Legends, it’s no different. If you want to focus on gold farming during the game, choose heroes with high AoE damage and escape skills. This allows you to perform effective attacks on minions and make a quick escape if things heat up. The best choices are heroes like Ruby, Esmeralda, Balmond, Khaleed, Jawhead, or Chou.
If, on the other hand, you want to focus on taking out enemy team members, pick heroes with assassin skills. For destroying turrets, heroes with marksman skills are most effective, and for battling jungle monsters — junglers.
5. Plan Based on Your Team’s Skills
To effectively farm gold, you also need to be flexible in your hero choices and adjust your strategy based on the other members of your team. This is much easier when playing with friends, as you can plan your actions before the match.
However, if you’re playing with random players, observe which heroes they’ve chosen and their positions on the map. This way, you can adjust your gameplay strategy and farm gold effectively in specific activities.
6. Don’t Get Killed
You’re probably wondering why we mentioned effective escapes earlier, when respawning exists. After all, even if your character is killed, they’ll come back to the map shortly. Yes, but every hero’s death and the wait for respawn is a significant loss for your team.
First of all, a hero’s death gives gold to the enemy team. Secondly, when you die, you can’t fight for several seconds, meaning you can’t earn gold or assist your team. Playing with fewer players makes the battle against enemies more difficult and gives the opposing team a gold advantage.
7. Destroy Turrets
One of the objectives in Mobile Legends is to destroy enemy turrets while defending your own. It’s also worth noting that destroying each turret grants gold to your team. How does this work exactly?
Dealing damage to turrets in the first 5 minutes of the game rewards extra resources. You can earn up to 400 gold for destroying a turret’s shield early in the game and leave it weakened for your team or your minions to finish off. However, destroying a turret completely by yourself also grants extra gold.
8. Attack Jungle Monsters Right After Respawn
Gold doesn’t just drop from minions, but also from jungle monsters — and large monsters provide even more of it (which isn’t surprising — bigger enemies in games usually drop more loot).
The key to success is attacking and defeating them right after respawn. Why? First, every large jungle monster killed immediately after appearing on the map gives bonus gold. With each respawn, they provide even more.
For example, the turtle (which appears in the second minute of the game) gives 60 bonus gold to each team member if killed right after spawning. On the second respawn (after another 120 seconds), this becomes 80 gold, then 100 gold, and later 120 gold. The Lord, on the other hand, appears every 9 minutes and grants 300 gold to each player.
9. Attack Opponents
As mentioned in point 6, a killed character has several seconds of respawn time, during which they can’t fight, thus earn gold. If you want to weaken the enemy team, attack players. Of course, first ensure you can handle the fight (for example, by attacking an already weakened opponent), so you don’t end up losing and being out of the game for a while yourself.
We’ve already mentioned in point 4 which heroes are best suited for direct combat with other players. However, it’s also worth noting that heroes with assassin emblems are just as effective.
10. Proper Equipment
And the final point, which essentially summarizes several earlier ones.
Remember to equip your hero appropriately before and during the fight. Base your decisions both on your planned strategy and on the actions and equipment of your teammates. Moreover, keep in mind that some items grant extra gold when defeating enemies — Assassin emblems, for instance, reward killing other players, while jungle items grant extra gold for killing monsters.
Conclusion
As you can see, farming gold isn’t as hard as it might seem. Anyone can find a way to earn as much as possible, thus strengthening their team’s stats, regardless of their gameplay preferences or strategy.
While playing, remember not to focus exclusively on one activity. Instead, “jump” between different tasks — take advantage of the time jungle monsters respawn, enemies respawn, and breaks in minion waves. Furthermore, remember to support your teammates. Avoid situations where you’ll be surrounded by multiple players and monsters, as you’ll end up spending more energy defending yourself rather than farming gold, and this could lead to an early break from the game for a while.
