New games

Donkey Kong: Bananza – July 17

A new Donkey Kong game? In the 2020s? Can this be? Indeed it can. Bananza is an open world adventure starring not just DK himself, but also a young singer Pauline. They join forces in order to explore an expansive Hollow Earth-like underground world and compete against VoidCo, a group of villainous apes to reach the wish-granting planet core.

One of DKB’s most impressive features is how destructible the environment is, and how much it matter for the experience. DK can wreck almost any solid terrain for fun, or to get at treasures hidden within. Another fun element are transformations, turning him into other animals (and a larger ape) to unlock extra abilities and movement options.

It looks really damned cool, and will come to Nintendo Switch 2 in July 17.

Shadow Labyrinth – July 18

With a title like “Shadow Labyrinth” it’s hard to imagine this thing is actually a Pac-Man game. Yes, the “yellow dot eating smaller dots and running from cute ghosts” Pac-Man.

Shadow Labyrinth - Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Trailer

You’re a mysterious Swordsman, a person exploring a dangerous world with a talkative metallic orb as your floating companion. Shadow Labyrinth is side-scrolling action platformer with progression at least in part based on munching on your enemies and claiming their traits for yourself. If you’ve seen the Prime Video show “Secret Level” you‘ve seen the episode based on this game.

Shadow Labyrinth launches on July 18.

Killing Floor 3 – July 24

The co-op, zombie-themed, PvE shooter is back with a vengeance.

Killing Floor 3 - Official Trailer | The Game Awards 2024

There isn’t all that much to say, it more of the familiar, high-paced zombie killing with handy bullet time which might save your bacon a few time. If you’re done with KF2 and want something very similar, but looking better and with various QoL improvements and firmly defined classes, the sequel arrives on July 24.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – July 24

A wuxia Soulslike? Hell yes. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is set in the more fantastical version of the Chinese Ming Dynasty, troubled by a monster-creating plague.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers - Official Trailer

Your protagonist will be the eponymous Wuchang, a somewhat amnesiac pirate who caught the nasty illness and now has a lengthy, and monster-filled journey ahead of her, hoping to regain lost memories. Wuchang looks really fantastic, with style simply oozing from designs and animations, and if the moment-to-moment gameplay will up to par with the spectacle, it might be a real hit.

The world will know when Wuchang: Fallen Feathers releases on July 24.

Grounded 2 – July 29

Tiny again!

Grounded 2 is a sequel to, well, Grounded, and while the original shrinkage was solved and the kids were saved, but things never stay fine for long, do they? This time, instead of the friendly backyard they are in the Brookhollow Park, an area much larger than what they’ve dealt with before.

Another new element are insect mounts which are going to be a major upgrade to your movement options. Who wouldn’t want to hitch a ride on an ant?

Grounded 2 launches on July 29.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound – July 31
