The answer seems obvious: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PS5/PC is a third-person action-platformer with strong shooter elements.

What earns it the name of “the prettiest PS5 title yet”, as ScreenRant claims, are its jaw-dropping visuals and astonishing interstellar environments that look like scenes from a movie. Add to that a cast of lovable characters and a creative arsenal of weapons, and it’s easy to see why this game is one of the best on PlayStation 5.

However, this story hides a deeper, rather unexpected truth.

Who is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for?

Everyone who enjoys fast-paced action, stunning visuals, and wants to see what the PS5 can really do would be amazed by Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart – that’s for sure. But I was looking for the perfect PS5 game for my fussy hubby since the Father’s Day was coming up. You should know that he’s an impatient guy and doesn’t like complex games  – that’s a very short and gentle description of him, believe me.

Like many of you probably do, I turned to Google for help. I typed: “the latest and easiest PS5 game for… (I’m sorry, honey!) …kids. And there it was – Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart popped up among a few other titles. I had completely forgotten about this piece of art, developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. At that moment, a lightbulb went off in my head, and I bet there was a sly twinkle in my eyes! You’ll see why later…

Summing up this part, you can confidently choose Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PS5 for:
  • Kids 7 and up who enjoy colourful adventures.
  • Teenagers and adults who appreciate platformers with engaging stories.

Where to get Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart from?

The game is widely available – not only for those who prefer shopping online, but also in-store (in Poland: Media Expert, Empik and others). You can get it from popular online retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Target, or directly from PlayStation Store as a digital download. What’s great is that I also found out it’s available on G2A.COM – offering the game accounts, activation keys, and even Steam gifts.

“That’s good news,” I thought. However, my husband is quite old-fashioned – he prefers to hold the present in his hands rather than receive a virtual gift. It made the whole thing more complicated, as I didn’t have much time to go shopping. Never mind – great deeds require sacrifice! Of course, I had my sneaky plan in my mind and it gave me the boost to take action.

Finally, I bought the retail version of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart at a physical store – RTV Euro AGD. On my way home, practically skipping with excitement, I kept thinking about how happy my husband would be – and how he’d probably scold me for spending too much on his gift. I kept rehearsing of how I’d respond, but I had to be careful not to give away what I’d actually secretly planned…

To conclude, here are the places where you can get Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart:
  • Online: Amazon, Best Buy, Target, G2A.COM and many others.
  • In-store: it depends on your country, but most major electronics retail chains should carry it.

What is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart like?

The game is a total masterpiece in my opinion. This stunning action-adventure title truly shows the power of next-generation technology. I’m so glad that I decided to buy PS5 for my hubby’s 40th birthday! The gameplay is fast and exciting, the story is full of heart and humour and its beautiful graphics and clever design make it feel like you’re playing inside a movie.

My hubby was completely shocked when we – our daughters and I – gave him the gift. Of course, he joked that he’d expected a pair of socks and gift cards from the kids, but after that, he was delighted beyond words. Uff, without being scolded – I breathed a sigh of relief. What’s more, our kids were also thrilled that Daddy would be playing a cartoon-style game, and they couldn’t wait to try it too.

The moment when I saw my husband playing the game, I couldn’t sit still – I was so eager to find a chance to play it myself – when no one was watching, of course. I think it’s fair to say I’m completely in love with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart! So let me paint a vivid picture of what the experience was like for me.

Story and Characters

I can truly say that this Ratchet & Clank’s adventure takes me on a thrilling journey through the multiverse, where a crisis across dimensions gives new heroes – Rivet and Kit – a chance to save their worlds.

I feel that the story isn’t just about the action – it explores deeper issues like identity, belonging, and what it really means to be a hero. What touches me most is the mix of humour and heart. I enjoy the witty dialogues and emotional moments while playing.

Gameplay Mechanics

The game offers a fantastic and dynamic gameplay experience – one of the most impressive features is dimensional rifting, which allows you to jump between worlds using rift portals. The combat is packed with action – you can use a wide variety of creative weapons.

Plus, I can enjoy classic platforming and exploration, solving various puzzles and discovering numerous hidden items. I like the idea of playing as both heroes – Ratchet and Rivet – who share tools, but have different personalities. It adds incredible depth and variety to the adventure. And to be honest, using the DualSense controller makes every moment feel more intense. It’s not just a controller – it’s some kind of a bridge between me and the game world. I love it!

Visuals and Performance

The game looks absolutely amazing. In-game worlds and detailed characters feel like they came straight out of the Pixar movie. Thanks to ray tracing and HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology, lighting and reflections are amazingly realistic, especially on PlayStation 5.

I’m not feeling tired even after playing for a long time, though I rarely get the chance to play that long – you know, with work, cooking, taking care of the kids and everything else.

Want a shorter version? Here’s my list of the game’s standout strengths:
  • The multiverse story is exciting and original.
  • Rivet and Kit add emotion and fresh energy.
  • The game explores identity, belonging, and heroism.
  • Funny lines and touching scenes create a great balance.
  • You can jump between worlds using rift portals.
  • Combat is fun with many creative weapons.
  • There are puzzles, platforming, and hidden items.
  • Playing as Ratchet and Rivet adds variety.
  • The DualSense controller makes gameplay feel intense.
  • The game looks like a Pixar movie.
  • Lighting and reflections are very realistic.
  • It runs smoothly on PlayStation 5, even during long sessions.

Conclusion

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart completely pulled me in with its fun and emotional story. The fresh multiverse twist and cool new characters like Rivet and Kit make everything feel fresh. Exciting gameplay, creative weapons, and smooth platforming keep me playing for hours without noticing the time. The visuals blew me away – seriously, it’s like watching a Pixar movie, and the DualSense controller makes every moment feel super-real. For me, it’s one of the most unforgettable gaming experience.

And now’s the perfect moment for my confession – I actually get Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for my hubby because… I wanted to play it myself. I know, I know! But, it was 2-in-1 deal, like shampoo: a gift for him AND for me. Honestly, I don’t think it was a bad decision. Just do me a favour – don’t say a word to my hubby. He still doesn’t know the truth.
