After Nintendo explicitly promised that version 2.0 and the Happy Home Paradise DLC back in 2021 would be the final major content drops, Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 update is officially here.

Arriving right alongside the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, this update is a massive gift for those of the players who have spent hundreds of hours on our islands and were looking for a reason to jump back in.

Whether you’re looking to spruce up your current setup or start completely fresh, there is a ton of new stuff to explore.

Animal Crossing New Horizons 3.0 Update

We all remember the 2020 launch, followed by the big 2.0 update a year later. But since then, things have been a bit quiet on the island front. For veterans who felt like they’d seen everything or had “completed” their islands, version 3.0 is a game changer.

It introduces long-requested quality-of-life features and entirely new ways to play that make the island life feel fresh again, especially for those who might have abandoned their villages for a while.

Bulk Crafting Is Finally Here

If you have spent way too much time staring at your character hammering away at a workbench just to make a single chair, you’re going to love this. Version 3.0 finally allows for bulk crafting, making it possible to create multiple copies of the same item at once.

Whether you need four wooden chairs for a new dining room setup or you’re decorating your entire island with campfires and need over ten apple chairs, the process is now much more streamlined. You will still need to farm all the wood and iron yourself, but the actual crafting animation will not eat up your entire afternoon anymore. It is a big time saver for anyone who loves large-scale decorating projects.

Work at the New Resort Hotel with Kapp’n’s Family

The pier just got a lot more interesting. There is a new Resort Hotel managed by Kapp’n’s family now available on your island. This feature is essentially a free to play version of the Happy Home Paradise DLC, allowing you to decorate hotel rooms for various visitors based on specific themes.

Working here earns you Hotel Tickets, which you can spend at the hotel’s souvenir shop on exclusive items and decor. If you are looking for inspiration for your own island or just want a space where you can decorate freely without worrying about your island’s layout, this is the perfect spot. It is also a solid way to attract new visitors and see some familiar faces from Kapp’n’s crew.

Create and Customize a Slumber Island

Ever wished you could have a second island without deleting your main one or buying a whole new console? Slumber Islands are basically the solution to that. This new feature allows you to choose a second island layout and size to act as your second home.

While these islands do not have a Town Hall or Nook’s Cranny, they serve as a perfect retreat where you can use all your spare furniture and decor. You can even invite villagers to visit or have up to twelve players on the island at once if you are playing the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. It is a team effort paradise where you and your friends can explore, decorate, and terraform together.

Expanded Storage: Up to 9,000 Items

The storage struggle is finally over. If your boxes are currently overflowing with fossils, seasonal clothing, or random furniture you might use one day, Tom Nook has some good news.

In version 3.0, you can head to the Town Hall and speak to Nook for two more storage upgrades. These are not just minor increases, they allow you to store a maximum of 9,000 items. This fixes one of the biggest limitations for longtime players who have been collecting every outfit and flooring type since 2020.

Redecorate Easily with Resetti’s Reset Service

Mr. Resetti has a brand new job, and it is actually incredibly helpful. If you are unhappy with a specific part of your island, maybe a farm that got out of hand or a beach party setup that no longer works, you can use Resetti’s Reset Service.

You select a portion of your island that you want to change, and Resetti will automatically tidy up everything in that area, including flowers, decor, and tools like ladders, and place them directly into your storage. It gives you a clean slate to work with without the tedious manual labor of picking up every single item one by one.

Honorable Mentions and Extra Content

Beyond the big five, there is plenty of other new content. You can collect new The Legend of Zelda, LEGO, and Splatoon related items to deck out your island. There are even new villagers inspired by Zelda and Splatoon that you can host if you have the right Amiibo. It is clear Nintendo wanted to go all out for this final content update.

Who Should Jump Back In?

This update is perfect for returning veterans who felt they had nothing left to do, as well as multiplayer-focused players who want to take advantage of the higher player cap on the Switch 2.

If you have been feeling burnt out, the new Slumber Islands and the Resort Hotel offer a low pressure way to enjoy the game’s core decorating mechanics again.
