Grain Rot mixes Lethal Company-style extraction runs, R.E.P.O.-like physics chaos, survival horror, and persistent base building.
You descend beneath a scorched outpost inside a fragile wooden body, rip apart furniture, fight corrupted creatures, haul everything useful back to the elevator, and spend the proceeds improving your chances of surviving the next trip.

What is Grain Rot?

Grain Rot is a first-person co-op horror game built around repeatable extraction runs and long-term Outpost progression.
Your crew rides a cursed elevator into shifting underground layers filled with loot, furniture, corrupted wooden creatures, and increasingly dangerous forms of the Rot.
The deeper you travel, the more valuable the potential haul becomes. It also becomes much less likely that everybody will return with the same number of limbs, friends, or functional bodies.
Your body is temporary and extremely flammable

Players control Living Sparks housed inside fragile wooden vessels. These bodies splinter, collapse, catch fire, and become corrupted during a run.
Losing a vessel does not immediately remove you from the session. Your Spark escapes and can continue guiding the team while searching for another host with a different set of abilities.
This gives failure a useful middle stage. You are weaker and racing against time, but you are not simply staring at a spectator screen while everyone else continues playing.
It also makes fire especially threatening. In most games, a wooden character is an art direction choice. In Grain Rot, it is a warning label.
Extraction feeds the building system

Everything useful in the Deep Layers can contribute to the Outpost.
Furniture can be smashed for materials or fed into the Grinder for gold. Successful runs unlock interactive furniture, stat improvements, rescued survivors, new equipment, and additional ways to prepare for later descents.
The important difference from a simple quota game is persistence. Loot does not only satisfy a temporary objective. It gradually transforms the Outpost into a stronger base capable of supporting more dangerous expeditions.
If the whole crew breaks before reaching safety, however, the collected haul is lost.
The monsters are not the only problem

The Corrupted respond to sound, movement, and other creatures, making encounters difficult to predict. Players can fight, run, barricade routes, and improvise with whatever survives the physics system.
Unfortunately, your friends use the same physics.
Players can dropkick enemies, launch another Spark out of its vessel, trap allies inside dangerous corridors, or create a chain reaction that turns the entire room into kindling.
That places Grain Rot firmly in the chaotic co-op category sometimes called friendslop. The horror provides pressure, but the stories players remember will probably involve somebody confidently making everything worse.

Grain Rot FAQ
Is Grain Rot similar to Lethal Company? Yes. Both use cooperative salvage runs, hostile procedural locations, risky extractions, and unpredictable group chaos. Grain Rot adds body possession and persistent Outpost building.
Is Grain Rot similar to R.E.P.O.? Yes. Both use physics to turn loot collection and teamwork into a source of tension and comedy. Grain Rot places more emphasis on construction, fighting, and replaceable wooden bodies.
What happens when your body breaks? Your Living Spark escapes the destroyed vessel. You can temporarily guide the team and search for another body to possess before fading out.
Does Grain Rot have base building? Yes. Loot, materials, gold, rescued survivors, and furniture recovered during runs are used to develop the Outpost.
Can Grain Rot be played alone? Yes. Single-player is supported, although the physics, sabotage, and crew interactions are designed with online co-op in mind.
Are Grain Rot levels procedural? Yes. The underground Deep Layers shift between expeditions, while enemies react to sound, movement, and one another.
What happens if the whole team dies? If every vessel breaks and the crew cannot recover, the loot collected during that run is lost.
Leave someone behind

Grain Rot understands the central appeal of modern co-op horror. Escaping safely is satisfying, but escaping after your entire plan collapsed is usually much funnier.
The Outpost gives every recovered chair and rescued survivor a long-term purpose. The wooden vessels make death less passive. The physics ensure that no sensible strategy survives contact with your friends.
Go deeper, collect more, rebuild the Outpost, and try not to become emergency firewood.
