Hytale Update 1 Patch Notes Explained
It adds new content, like dinosaurs and NPCs in underground jungles, and also brings many fixes, balance changes, and quality‑of‑life improvements. The most noticeable upgrades are:
- easier backpack progression
- a longer crafting range when pulling items from chests
- better line‑of‑sight checks in combat
- improved multiplayer networking thanks to QUIC and BBR
Top Changes
The latest update brings several important improvements to gameplay, balance, and overall performance.
- Underground jungles now feature dinosaurs and new NPCs, which appear only in unexplored areas.
- Crafting benches can pull items from chests within 14 blocks horizontally and 6 blocks vertically.
- Backpacks are cheaper and require lower workbench tiers (Tier 1 to craft, Tier 2 for the first upgrade).
- Combat now uses line‑of‑sight checks, and the Burn damage change is reduced (lava remains unchanged).
- Quality‑of‑life updates include sleeping from 7:30 PM, a sprint FOV cap of 160°, clearer version warnings, and better lag handling.
- Server improvements include QUIC BBR servers, upgraded authentication, and improved session systems.
Why You May Not See Dinosaurs
You won’t see the new dinosaurs in places you’ve already explored, because they only appear in newly generated areas created after the biome update.
The underground jungle NPCs rely on updated biome conditions, so older chunks don’t refresh or change. To find the dinosaurs, you need to travel into completely new regions that the game hasn’t generated before.
World and Environment
The world has received several environmental and structural improvements that make different regions feel more dynamic and polished.
- The underground jungle biome now includes dinosaurs and other NPCs with placeholder behaviours.
- Devastated Lands sewers feature new atmospheric effects and creature spawns.
- Areas beneath volcanoes use updated volcanic environmental effects.
- Feran villages have improved placement, textures, and interior fixes.
- An invisible filler block behind a bench in the Forgotten Temple has been removed.
NPCs and Creatures
The latest update brings a range of improvements to NPC and creature behaviour:
- NPCs that previously lacked it now have knockback resistance.
- Fire‑themed NPCs and creatures are immune to fire damage (though they may still appear to burn).
- Crystal Earth Golem has improved combat logic and a smoother spin attack.
- Skeletons no longer take drowning damage.
- Kweebecs are immune to cactus and bramble environmental damage.
- Cautious predators, such as foxes, only attack when provoked.
- Livestock no longer climb the Chicken Coop.
- Kweebecs and Trorks in Whisperfrost Frontiers now use correct loot tables.
Crafting, Items and Farming
They have received such adjustments that create the biggest gameplay impact. They include:
- Base backpack now needs a Tier 1 Workbench and 8 Medium Leather (down from 16), and the first upgrade uses a Tier 2 Workbench (down from Tier 3).
- Crafting benches can pull materials from chests within 14 horizontal (up from 7) and 6 vertical blocks (up from 4).
- All hide types process into Leather 10 seconds faster, and processing benches now show item tooltips in upgrade requirements.
- Raw fruits and vegetables only give Health Regen I, while cooked food provides extra benefits.
- Dropped items no longer stick to block sides, handheld lights can be placed while holding tools, and pickaxes/hatchets only swing on primary action.
- Corn exchange now gives 1 Essence of Life (was 4), and fully grown Cauliflower, Pumpkin, and Eternal Crops no longer drop extra seeds.
- Logs clearly show their wood type, “Trunk” is renamed to “Log,” tooltips list which trees drop each log type, and the Woodcutter’s Block is correctly categorized with decorative furniture craftable at the Furniture Bench.
Audio and Visual Changes
- Improved stone and ore hit/break sounds.
- Layered ore effects for richer audio feedback.
- Softer torch ambience.
- Better‑balanced volume and pitch variation.
- New particle effects for ore breaking, fruit eating, and memory absorption.
- Updated health potion visuals.
- Rope offset and hand‑positioning fixes.
UI, Performance and QoL Updates
- Earlier rest time: sleep 7:30 PM.
- Memories info panel on first Heart of Orbis interaction, re‑openable via “?”.
- Fullscreen/HUD/Screenshot no longer bindable to mouse buttons.
- Warnings for pre‑release builds or mismatched world versions.
- Sprint FOV capped at 160°.
- Fixed LAN discovery cancelling.
- More stable interactions during lag spikes.
Character Customisation
- New eye types (Cat, Demonic, Goat, and Reptile)
- New mouth options (Large Mouth and Tiny Lips)
- New Lavender hair colour
- Reworked Bangs and a brighter Dark Brown shade
- Fixed Supporter‑edition Featherbound Hood display
Combat and Balance
Combat is now a bit simpler to read and understand. Weapon attacks only work when you have a clear view of your target, so you can’t hit enemies through walls or obstacles anymore.
Regular Burn effects do less damage than before, but lava Burn is still just as strong. Damage from cactus and brambles is now marked as Environmental damage, which makes it clearer where the harm is coming from.
Commands and Server
Server commands are now more reliable and easier to use. The teleport command has a corrected argument order, so it now works as /tp .
- /give command supports durability values
- whitelist/ban entries can include online usernames or offline UUIDs
On the networking side, QUIC now uses BBR congestion control, and both authentication and session token handling have been improved for better stability.
Bug Fixes and Stability
The update includes a wide range of bug fixes and stability improvements:
- Stamina consumption fixed for charged attacks.
- Signature attack edge‑case issues resolved.
- Crop growth and saving corrected, including tomatoes.
- Crashes related to hairstyles, avatars, and memory loading fixed.
- Screenshot crashes with non‑English folder names removed.
- Improved chunk loading at extreme view distances.
- Teleport race conditions resolved.
- More reliable session refresh.
- Localization loop affecting Norwegian users fixed.
