Mewgenics is a new hit from veteran developer Edmund McMillen, and it’s taken Steam by storm.
Is the grotesque cat-breeding roguelite RPG going to arrive to other platforms after the incredibly successful PC launch? Here’s what we know right now!
Short answer
For the time being Mewgenics is only available for PC, exclusively through Steam.
While developer Edmund McMillen mentioned in late 2025 that console versions would come “next year” (suggesting a 2026 window), it is unclear how much of that intent remains true. As a result, the developer comments shouldn’t be held as an firm, official announcement.
Current availability
At the time of writing, Mewgenics is available on Steam at a launch discount of 10%, which will end on February 24th and the game will return to its full price, $29,99.
Despite this limited platform availability, Mewgenics sold very well and its Steam playercount peaked at almost 87 thousand players just two days from release, before its first weekend. With such a momentum and presence, should a console version arrive, it would likely do quite well too.
Which consoles would be a good match for Mewgenics?
The big three (PlayStation, Xbox, Switch) would be safe bets.
The game’s artstyle and playstyle would make it an especially good fit on Nintendo Switch, particularly with Switch 2 already available. It wouldn’t be McMillen’s first game on the console, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is available on both Switches, after all.
The idea of Android and iOS mobile port isn’t too far-fetched, but probably the least likely out of the usual options for the future of the feline indie success.
Conclusions
If you’re adamant about playing on console, be mindful that there hasn’t been any official, post-launch announcement that any console port is coming, or that it would come to the console you already own.
If you’re fine with the risk of it never materializing: patience is advised, otherwise reconsider trying the game on PC. Its Steam release (the only release, at the moment) has very reasonable system requirements.
