This new cat sandbox from Purr Dev puts you in control of a customizable feline exploring a cozy city and beach. You can climb rooftops, squeeze through alleys, swim, hunt for hidden paths, help other animals, collect customization options, and generally treat carefully arranged objects as personal insults.
If the idea sounds familiar, that is because MEOWMI lands right in the middle of several very recognizable games. There is Stray in the cat’s-eye perspective, Little Kitty, Big City in its cozy urban exploration, Untitled Goose Game in the cheerful public nuisance department, and a little Goat Simulator whenever the sandbox starts encouraging bad behavior.
The interesting part is where MEOWMI differs from all of them.

What is MEOWMI: City Cat Chaos?
MEOWMI: City Cat Chaos is a single-player open-world sandbox where you explore a colorful city from the perspective of a cat.
The movement kit already gives the concept plenty to work with. Your cat can run, jump, climb, and swim, letting you explore rooftops, alleys, hidden routes, streets, and a beach area instead of simply following paths at ground level.
Then there is the important stuff: knocking objects over.
MEOWMI’s environment is designed to be interactive. You can disturb objects, leave paw prints behind, poke around for secrets, complete small quests, and interact with animal friends. It is less about overcoming dangerous enemies and more about seeing what happens when a curious cat is given access to a small open world with very little adult supervision.
That makes it a cozy game, but not necessarily a passive one. The fun seems to come from movement, discovery, experimentation, collecting things, and occasionally becoming the reason somebody needs to put the vase back on the table.
Is MEOWMI like Stray?
Stray is inevitably the first comparison because both games let you explore an urban environment as a cat.
But the similarities become much weaker once you look beyond the protagonist.
Stray is a much more directed adventure. It has a defined story, a mysterious cybercity, puzzles, stealth, dangerous encounters, and B-12 accompanying the cat through a narrative with a clear beginning and end.
MEOWMI appears lighter and more sandbox-driven. Instead of pushing through a dramatic science-fiction mystery, you are encouraged to roam around, find hidden paths, customize your cat, interact with objects, and complete smaller activities at your own pace.
So if Stray made you think, “I wish I could just spend another five hours messing around as the cat,” MEOWMI is probably speaking directly to you.

The Untitled Goose Game comparison might actually tell you more about MEOWMI than Stray does.
Both games understand that playing an animal is funniest when the world was clearly designed for humans and you have absolutely no intention of respecting that arrangement.
Untitled Goose Game gives its mischief more structure. You have objectives, people to annoy, objects to steal, and carefully planned goose crimes to commit. MEOWMI looks more relaxed, with exploration, environmental interactions, mini-quests, and discovery taking a larger role.
Then there is Goat Simulator 3, sitting at the other end of the chaos scale.
Goat Simulator is built around absurd physics, ridiculous abilities, intentional nonsense, co-op, and turning an open environment into a disaster zone. MEOWMI is considerably softer. You are a mischievous cat, not a four-legged weapon of mass destruction.
Still, they share the same basic sandbox instinct: give the player an animal, fill the environment with things that react, and see how long it takes before respectable behavior disappears.
The big hook: build your own cat
This might be MEOWMI’s most useful way of separating itself from the other obvious cat games.
Purr Dev says the game includes more than 100 cat patterns, alongside costumes and accessories. Instead of controlling one predefined feline, you get considerably more freedom to create the particular tiny criminal you want roaming around the city.
That customization also fits the sandbox structure. Stray’s cat is a character in a story. MEOWMI’s cat is closer to your personal avatar inside a playground.
For players who spend unreasonable amounts of time adjusting character creators before playing a game, this is dangerous information.
MEOWMI Early Access plans
MEOWMI is being developed as an Early Access game, with Purr Dev saying community feedback will help shape future updates.
The developer currently expects the Early Access period to last roughly 6 to 12 months, although that can change depending on feedback and development progress.
Planned additions include more areas, more activities and interactions, additional customization options, improved animations and performance, and extra quests and events.
In other words, the current concept is already clear: cozy feline exploration and sandbox chaos. The question for Early Access is how much bigger and more polished that playground becomes.
