F1 25 brings the 2025 championship to PS5

F1 25 is the official game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship and the biggest mainstream name in October’s lineup. Codemasters’ racer includes its traditional Career experience alongside the redesigned My Team 2.0 mode, where players manage their own Formula 1 operation as the team owner.

There is plenty here for multiplayer-focused subscribers as well. F1 World includes a mode built around racing with friends as a squad against AI-controlled drivers, adding another option beyond conventional online competition.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 adds a much darker multiplayer option

Hunt: Showdown 1896 takes the lineup in a completely different direction. Crytek’s extraction shooter combines PvE monster hunting with the constant threat of rival players competing for the same bounty.

Matches revolve around tracking bosses, defeating them, collecting their bounty and surviving long enough to extract. You can enter alone or bring up to two teammates, which means every encounter can quickly shift from a controlled hunt into a fight against another squad.

For PS Plus members who prefer multiplayer where losing actually matters, Hunt is the most high-pressure game in the October trio. Its mixture of AI enemies, sound-driven tracking and unpredictable player encounters makes it fundamentally different from a traditional arena shooter.

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 is the co-op wildcard

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 turns the usually chaotic EDF formula into a colorful voxel battlefield. The square Earth has once again been invaded by giant enemies, and players build a four-character squad from the soldiers they rescue and collect.

The roster pulls characters from both the main Earth Defense Force series and its spin-offs, while returning enemies also appear in blocky new forms. The important part for October’s lineup is co-op: World Brothers 2 supports four-player online play as well as two-player local split screen on PS5 and PS4.

That makes it the most straightforward couch-friendly option of the three games, especially for players who want something less punishing than Hunt and less competitive than F1 25.

Last chance to claim September’s PS Plus games

Before October’s lineup goes live, PlayStation Plus members still have until Monday, October 5 to add September’s Monthly Games to their libraries.

  • Sniper Elite: Resistance
  • MLB The Show 26
  • Wobbly Life
  • Chained Echoes

Anyone interested in those games should claim them before the October rotation begins on October 6.

October also brings HorrorFest packs and Spider-Man avatars

The Monthly Games are not the only PlayStation Plus additions arriving in early October. Sony is also rolling out several horror-themed in-game packs. The Call of Duty: Warzone Horror Bundle becomes available October 1, followed by a Hunt: Showdown 1896 Starter Pack on October 6 and an Overwatch 2 Dragur Reinhardt + 5 Tier Skips Pack on October 7. The relevant base games are required to use the pack contents.

PlayStation Plus subscribers can also claim limited-edition Spider-Man: Brand New Day avatars through Sony Pictures Core starting October 6. Sony says that promotion runs until October 20, with availability limited to regions where Sony Pictures Core is supported.

Three very different games arrive on October 6

October’s Monthly Games do not share much mechanically, but that is the point of the lineup. F1 25 covers racing, Hunt: Showdown 1896 targets players who want tense competitive sessions, and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 provides a lighter co-op alternative that also supports PS4.
