Saros just got substantially bigger.

Housemarque has clearly built Zenith for two very different groups. New players can slow the game down, enable auto-fire, use motion aiming, and make the famously busy bullet patterns easier to read and react to. Veterans get Eclipse Layers, tougher Trial Modifiers, new progression goals, a Crown that grows as the challenge increases, hidden Visions, and Overlord Rush leaderboards to chase.
The important bit is that Housemarque is not simply making Saros easier or harder. Zenith gives players more control over how they want Carcosa to fight back.
The big takeaway: Zenith is a free update for every Saros owner. The headline additions are Eclipse Layers New Game+, Overlord Rush, 10 new Protection Modifiers, 10 new Trial Modifiers, Slow Game Speed, auto-fire, motion sensor aiming, High-Contrast visuals, new trophies, and additional post-game secrets.
Release: October 19, 2026.
Price: Free for existing Saros owners.
Platform: PlayStation 5, including PS5 Pro enhancements.
Research basis: Housemarque and official PlayStation information for the final Zenith release, plus the earlier official Zenith gameplay reveal.

What is the Saros: Zenith update?
Zenith is the first big post-launch expansion of the Saros formula, but it is not a traditional story DLC. Housemarque has focused on replayability, challenge customization, accessibility, and giving players more reasons to return after finishing Arjun’s journey across Carcosa.
That produces an interesting split. One half of the update removes friction for players who found Saros intimidating. The other half essentially asks experienced players how much pain they would like to voluntarily bolt onto the game.
Slow Game Speed, auto-fire, gyro aiming, and accessibility upgrades
The smartest accessibility idea in Zenith might be Slow Game Speed. Housemarque did not want to solve Saros difficulty by simply removing the projectile patterns that define its combat, so the attacks remain intact. Instead, players can give themselves more time to read what is happening.
The slowdown can be adjusted, and you can choose whether it activates automatically in combat or whether you toggle it manually when the screen starts turning into glowing projectile soup. You still need to decide whether to jump, dash, block, or parry. You just have a little longer to make that decision.
Auto-fire removes another source of physical strain. With the option enabled, Arjun fires automatically when you aim at a hostile. Reloading is not automated, and perfect reloads still require correct timing, so Housemarque is deliberately preserving part of the game’s mechanical skill ceiling.
Zenith also brings Motion Sensor Aiming using the DualSense controller. Combined with existing button remapping, players now have considerably more control over how aiming and movement feel. The earlier official Zenith reveal also confirmed High-Contrast visuals as part of the update.
20 new Carcosan Modifiers push difficulty in both directions
Zenith substantially expands Saros’ Carcosan Modifier system with 10 new Protection Modifiers and 10 new Trial Modifiers.
Protections are the forgiving side of the equation. One new example is Corruption Melee Enhancement. Normally, Corruption builds on Arjun’s armor after certain projectile hits and reduces maximum Integrity. With this Protection active, built-up Corruption can instead be consumed when a melee strike connects, turning the dangerous status into a burst of additional damage.
The Trial side does the opposite. Housemarque highlights Hostile Regeneration, which allows larger enemies to recover after being stunned. Weapon damage can bring them down temporarily, but a melee strike is required to actually finish the job. Suddenly, staying safely at range is no longer enough.

Eclipse Layers is Saros New Game+
The biggest addition for players who already finished Saros is Eclipse Layers, Housemarque’s version of New Game+.
After completing the game, new nodes appear in the Armor Matrix back at the Passage. These unlock access to additional Eclipse Layers, each presenting a more intense version of Saros with altered rules.
The clever part is that higher difficulty is not one fixed preset. Before starting an Eclipse Layer, you assemble a Carcosan Modifier loadout and have to meet a required Modifier threshold. Trial Modifiers raise that balance, so reaching the requirement means deliberately choosing which disadvantages you are willing to live with.
There are now 25 different Trials to choose from in total. That makes the second journey less about simply fighting enemies with bigger numbers and more about constructing your own particularly nasty version of Carcosa.
The Crown shows how much trouble you volunteered for
Housemarque has also found a very Housemarque way to show off difficult Eclipse Layer runs. Arjun gains a glowing golden Crown while playing the mode, and the more Trials you stack onto the run, the more elaborate that Crown becomes.
It is effectively a visible badge for how aggressively you have modified the game against yourself. Higher Modifier Balance means a larger, more impressive Crown and an increasingly golden Arjun.

There are also 12 new Visions to find
The Crown has a second purpose. Eclipse Layers contain 12 new Visions, presented as murals and messages left in stone by an ancient king.
Finding a Vision is only part of the job. Higher Crown levels are required to perceive additional story text hidden within them. That ties Saros’ lore directly to challenge progression: if you want everything the new collectibles have to say, you will need to push further into the Trial system.

Overlord Rush brings Housemarque back to score chasing
Overlord Rush is Zenith’s other major mode and probably its most immediately arcade-like addition.
It is accessed through the Primary Unit in the Passage and throws Arjun into a training simulation built entirely around Saros’ Overlord bosses. Instead of making another full journey through Carcosa to reach them, you can fight them in dedicated gauntlets and chase better scores.
The mode includes integrated leaderboards for friends and global competition. Scores can also be filtered by Main Weapon, which gives specialists a chance to compare themselves with players using the same gear rather than only chasing the absolute overall record.
Online leaderboard functionality requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account.
Zenith adds new trophies and post-game secrets
Housemarque’s original Zenith gameplay reveal also confirms new trophies tied to the expanded post-game experience, alongside new secrets inside Eclipse Layers.
The final October 19 PlayStation Blog breakdown does not list every new trophy individually, so there is no reason to invent a checklist here. What is clear is that completionists now have additional goals beyond finishing the original campaign, while the Visions give lore-focused players something completely different to chase.
Who should play Saros after Zenith?
If you bounced off Saros because Housemarque’s bullet ballet looked like somebody emptied a fireworks warehouse directly into your television, Zenith is probably the best excuse yet to try again. Slow Game Speed and auto-fire address very different barriers without simply deleting the attack patterns that make Saros what it is.
If you already cleared Carcosa, the case is even simpler. Eclipse Layers finally provide a structured post-game difficulty ladder, while Overlord Rush creates a repeatable skill challenge that does not require replaying full runs just to fight a favorite boss.
The Crown and Visions are a particularly nice touch because they turn difficulty into more than a number. Taking on harder modifier combinations changes how Arjun looks and eventually lets you extract more story from the world.

Saros: Zenith FAQ
Is the Saros: Zenith update free?
Yes. Zenith launched on October 19, 2026 and is available to existing Saros owners at no additional charge.
Does Saros now have New Game+?
Yes. New Game+ is called Eclipse Layers. It unlocks after completing Saros and introduces tougher versions of the game built around mandatory Carcosan Trial Modifiers and altered rules.
What is Overlord Rush?
Overlord Rush is a boss-rush mode accessed from the Passage. Incursion and Ascension contain three Overlords each, while Totality puts all eight Overlords into one continuous gauntlet. Scores can be compared through online leaderboards.
Does Zenith make Saros easier?
It can, but that is only half the update. Slow Game Speed, auto-fire, High-Contrast visuals, motion aiming, and new Protection Modifiers can make the game more approachable. At the same time, 10 new Trial Modifiers and Eclipse Layers let experienced players make Saros substantially harder.
Zenith gives Saros a much stronger second life
Zenith works because Housemarque did not pick between making Saros more welcoming and making it more demanding. It did both.
Players who struggled with the speed now have tools that preserve the bullet patterns while giving them more control over the experience. Players who already conquered Carcosa can stack Trial Modifiers, climb Eclipse Layers, hunt all 12 Visions, grow a ridiculous golden Crown, and spend an unhealthy amount of time shaving points off an Overlord Rush score.
For a free update, that is a pretty substantial expansion of both ends of the Saros audience.
