A fresh take on the original Vampire Survivors. Use cards to conquer the well-known dungeons in a completely different, first-person turn-based format.

Vampire Crawlers – A Vampire Survivors Spin-Off Announced

Vampire Crawlers is a newly announced spin-off of the indie hit Vampire Survivors – a game that spawned a lot of clones, including Megabonk, which became wildly popular recently.

The core idea in games like Vampire Survivors is that players control a character, dodge enemies, and collect a variety of bonuses and power-ups to make the character stronger, but the attacking is fully automatic and requires no additional input. The character attacks nearby enemies automatically; players have to focus on movement and positioning.

The spin-off plays nothing like the original game, though. As opposed to fast-paced action from Vampire Survivors, Vampire Crawlers is a first-person turn-based dungeon crawler, allowing players to slow down and think before executing a deadly combo.

It’s not to say that the game will be completely different, though. Vampire Crawlers will feature items, characters, monsters, and places known from, or inspired by, the original game.

The humor, the atmosphere, and the franchise’s identity remain unchanged, just like the possibility of breaking the game with overpowered builds.

The original pixel-art style was also retained, evoking a strong sense of familiarity, especially if you’re a fan of Vampire Survivors.

A Turn-Based Roguelike Deckbuilder

Vampire Crawlers will focus on building a custom deck of cards and playing them to perform actions during the game. During play, you’ll be able to find a variety of power-ups and bonuses, enabling a certain degree of card customization and making it possible to create builds tailored to personal preference and playstyle. Weapon evolutions are also confirmed to be a part of the game.

Developers said that we’ll be able to either take our time and think carefully before each move or play more aggressively. It’s unclear what it exactly means, though; perhaps we’ll get some kind of power bonus when we play our hand quickly, encouraging a fast-paced approach. Alternatively, it could simply refer to the turn-based nature of the game, in which, by design, the pace is decided by the player.

First-Person Gameplay

The new game will be played from the first-person perspective, allowing players to explore familiar-looking dungeons in a way that was not possible before.

Combined with its pixel-art visuals, Vampire Crawlers is reminiscent of classic old-school retro 3D games we loved and admired a few decades ago.

Is Vampire Crawlers a Sequel to Vampire Survivors?

Vampire Crawlers is a spin-off, not a sequel. It was stated clearly by poncle, the game’s developer, who also expressed the hope that it’s just one of many Vampire Survivors spin-offs to come in the near future.

Community Reactions

The gaming community and fans of Vampire Survivors in particular are generally enthusiastic about the upcoming game, thanks to poncle’s reputation as a developer who has proven to be more than capable at making simple yet extremely addictive games.

People can’t wait to give Vampire Crawlers a try; they are already convinced that it has the potential to be just as fun as the original game.
