Final Fantasy VII Revelation may be playable at Gamescom 2026. A German gaming industry website briefly listed the upcoming RPG as playable in Hall 8 before removing that information from the article.

Square Enix has not officially announced a public Gamescom demo yet, but comments from director Naoki Hamaguchi make the possibility considerably more believable.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is still several months away, but players attending Gamescom 2026 may get their hands on the trilogy’s finale much sooner than expected.

The possibility comes from an unusual update to a Gameswirtschaft article covering the games expected at this year’s event.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Gamescom Demo May Have Leaked

German games industry website Gameswirtschaft originally listed Final Fantasy VII Revelation as playable in Hall 8 at Gamescom 2026.

That detail did not stay online for long.

The article was later updated and the reference to Revelation being playable was removed. The current Gameswirtschaft Hall 8 overview lists other Square Enix games, including Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but no longer identifies Revelation as one of the playable titles.

The original wording was preserved in a screenshot shared through the GamingLeaksAndRumours community on Reddit, which is where the apparent leak began attracting attention.

Important: Square Enix has not officially confirmed a public Final Fantasy VII Revelation demo at Gamescom. The deleted listing could represent information published too early, but it could also simply have been an error.

Hamaguchi Already Teased Playable Events

The rumor becomes much more interesting when combined with recent comments from Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi.

In an August interview with AUTOMATON, Hamaguchi explained that Square Enix was preparing opportunities for both players and media to try Revelation at multiple events.

He stopped short of naming those events, but suggested fans could probably work out which ones he meant.

Gamescom is an obvious candidate. It is one of the largest gaming events of the year, Revelation is already part of Square Enix’s current promotional campaign, and Hamaguchi himself is expected to be involved in the game’s Gamescom appearance.

That still does not prove that Gameswirtschaft’s deleted listing was accurate, but it makes the possibility of a hands-on build considerably less surprising.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Is Coming to Gamescom Opening Night Live

Even if the playable demo does not materialize, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is expected to appear during Gamescom Opening Night Live.

Gameswirtschaft currently lists Revelation among the games associated with the show, together with director Naoki Hamaguchi. Opening Night Live takes place on August 25, 2026, one day before Gamescom opens to regular visitors.

That means confirmation of a Gamescom demo could arrive during the showcase itself.

At minimum, fans should expect another look at the final chapter of the Remake trilogy as Square Enix continues its marketing campaign toward the Spring 2027 launch.

FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION Reveal Trailer

The game’s original reveal already showed an enormous step up in scale. Revelation allows players to pilot the Highwind across a freely explorable planet, deploy from the air, revisit familiar regions, explore new locations, and fight alongside newly playable Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind.

What Could a Final Fantasy VII Revelation Demo Include?

For now, anything about the contents of a potential Gamescom demo is speculation.

However, Square Enix already has several gameplay systems it could showcase without revealing major story spoilers.

Revelation expands the Remake trilogy’s hybrid combat system with playable Vincent and Cid, while the new FITS system allows characters to equip outfits that grant different abilities and movesets inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs.

Square Enix could also use a demo to showcase Highwind exploration, one of the finale’s biggest new features, or one of the game’s large-scale battles against the Weapons.

A carefully selected combat and exploration section would let players experience the mechanical changes without giving away the trilogy’s closely guarded ending.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Launches in Spring 2027

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is officially scheduled for Spring 2027.

Unlike the previous entries, Revelation is planned as a simultaneous multiplatform release for:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • Nintendo Switch 2
  • PC via Steam
  • PC via Epic Games Store
  • Windows through the Xbox ecosystem

The game is the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy and will bring Cloud’s battle against Sephiroth to its conclusion.

Square Enix has already confirmed a much larger explorable world, Highwind traversal, the return of major locations including Wutai, new combat systems, and the addition of Cid and Vincent to the playable roster.

Gamescom could now mark the next major step in that campaign.

Catch Up Before Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Gamescom May Give Us the Answer

For now, the playable Final Fantasy VII Revelation demo remains an unconfirmed leak.

The deleted Gameswirtschaft listing is interesting on its own, but Hamaguchi’s earlier comments about preparing hands-on opportunities make the timing difficult to ignore.

With Revelation already expected at Opening Night Live, fans may not have to speculate for much longer.

If Square Enix really is bringing a playable build to Cologne, Gamescom 2026 could deliver the first public impressions of the trilogy’s finale months before launch.
