Now, after becoming a major PC roguelite hit, the cat-breeding tactics game appears ready to escape Steam and make the jump to Xbox Series X|S.
A live Microsoft Store page now lists the game as optimized for Xbox Series X|S, complete with Xbox achievements, cloud saves, 4K support, 60 FPS+, and keyboard and mouse support. The timing, right before Gamescom, makes an official console announcement look increasingly likely.

Mewgenics appears on the Xbox Store
The biggest sign yet that a Mewgenics Xbox release is close arrived on August 22, when an official page for the game appeared on the Microsoft Store.
Insider Gaming first highlighted the listing ahead of Gamescom, noting that most of the store data was still locked down. The public-facing page, however, is already much more than a placeholder.
Microsoft lists Mewgenics for Xbox Series X|S, with Nicalis Inc. named as publisher and Edmund McMillen Games Inc. as developer.
There is still one important missing ingredient: neither the developers nor Nicalis have formally announced the Xbox release date. Until that happens, the Store page should be treated as a very strong sign of an approaching launch rather than the final announcement itself.
What does the Xbox listing reveal?
The listing confirms several technical features for the Xbox Series X|S version.

- Xbox presence
- Console keyboard and mouse support
- Single-player
That is enough information to suggest this is not simply an empty backend entry. A substantial amount of platform-specific data is already attached to the game.
There is another interesting detail. On Steam, Mewgenics is self-published by Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel. The Xbox page instead names Nicalis as publisher, giving the console version a familiar partner connected to McMillen’s previous work.
Could the announcement happen at Gamescom?
The timing is hard to ignore.
The Xbox Store page surfaced immediately before Gamescom, where Xbox is expected to have a substantial presence. That makes the event an obvious place for a formal Mewgenics console announcement.
There is no confirmation that this is what will happen, so it is worth keeping expectations under control. Still, the combination of an active Xbox page, platform features, achievements and previous confirmation that console versions were being pursued makes the Xbox release look much more concrete than it did earlier this year.

What is Mewgenics?
Mewgenics is a turn-based tactical roguelite from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel. Its central idea is gloriously strange: breed cats, pass traits and mutations through generations, assign classes, build increasingly ridiculous combinations and send your feline squad into tactical battles.
The game launched on Steam on February 10, 2026, and its reception quickly turned it from a long-running curiosity into one of the year’s major indie success stories.
Its current Metacritic score sits at 88, while the Steam version has more than 28,000 English-language user reviews, with roughly 91% positive. The scale is also substantial for a roguelite, with the Steam page advertising a campaign that can stretch beyond 200 hours, more than 1,000 abilities, 900+ items and hundreds of enemies and bosses.
If The Binding of Isaac was Edmund McMillen’s machine for generating bizarre item synergies, Mewgenics applies the same love of broken combinations to genes, classes, positioning and generations of increasingly questionable cats.
