A new Uncharted game is reportedly in development at Naughty Dog, but for now that remains an unconfirmed report rather than an official announcement. MP1st claims the project is an all-new entry rather than a remake, is being led by The Lost Legacy creative director Shaun Escayg, and will feature Nathan Drake in some capacity. Naughty Dog and Sony have not revealed the game, its title, platforms, release date, or even publicly confirmed that the project exists.
The report comes as Naughty Dog remains publicly focused on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, its new science-fiction IP currently in development for PlayStation 5.
VGC says it has been able to partially corroborate MP1st’s reporting through its own sources, adding some weight to the story. Even so, until Naughty Dog or PlayStation says otherwise, any supposed new Uncharted should be treated as an unannounced project whose plans could still change.
What the new Uncharted report actually claims
According to MP1st, Naughty Dog is working on a new Uncharted game rather than a remake of an existing entry.
The report specifically claims that:
- the project is an all-new Uncharted game
- Shaun Escayg is leading development
- Nathan Drake is expected to appear in some capacity
- Drake’s exact role is not known
- the project is reportedly positioned after Intergalactic in Naughty Dog’s development pipeline
There is currently no confirmation that Nathan Drake will be the protagonist. MP1st says it could not establish whether he is the lead, a supporting character, or simply makes an appearance.
That distinction matters because calling the project “Uncharted 5” already goes beyond what has actually been announced. No official title exists publicly, and Naughty Dog has not confirmed what form another Uncharted story would take.
The report also says the project is not the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune remake that has appeared in earlier rumors.
Shaun Escayg would be a familiar choice for another Uncharted
Escayg’s reported involvement would give the project a clear connection to the most recent original Uncharted release.
He served as creative director on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, working alongside game director Kurt Margenau. The 2017 standalone game moved Nathan Drake out of the protagonist role and instead followed Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross across India’s Western Ghats.
That makes The Lost Legacy an important precedent for whatever Naughty Dog might do next. The studio has already demonstrated that an Uncharted game does not necessarily need Nathan Drake at its center.
Naughty Dog described The Lost Legacy at the time as an opportunity to explore whether the series could continue by placing other established characters in the spotlight. The result retained the franchise’s familiar mix of exploration, climbing, puzzles, combat, treasure hunting, and large cinematic set pieces while giving Chloe the lead role.
If Escayg is indeed directing another installment, however, that does not by itself tell us who the protagonist will be or whether the new game will follow The Lost Legacy’s structure.
There is still no official Uncharted announcement
The most important part of the story is what hasn’t happened.
Naughty Dog has not announced another Uncharted game. PlayStation has not announced one either.
The studio’s own current public information still identifies Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as Naughty Dog’s next game. Intergalactic was formally revealed in December 2024 and remains in development for PS5.
MP1st claims the reported Uncharted project is intended to follow Intergalactic, which would help explain why a formal reveal may still be some way off. VGC has separately reported that its own sources can partially corroborate the existence of the project.
That makes the report more notable than a single unsupported rumor, but it still does not turn the game into an announced product. Development priorities can change, projects can be reworked or cancelled, and none of the reported details should be treated as final until Naughty Dog speaks publicly.
Uncharted has been quiet for almost a decade
The last mainline game was Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in 2016, which deliberately brought Nathan Drake’s central story to a close.
The Lost Legacy followed in 2017, proving that Naughty Dog could continue the series without making Drake the playable hero. The franchise later returned through Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which remastered Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy for PS5 and brought both games to PC.
Naughty Dog marked Uncharted 4’s tenth anniversary in May 2026, but that celebration did not include an announcement of a new game.
For now, then, the clearest way to describe the situation is simple: multiple reports point toward another Uncharted being developed at Naughty Dog, potentially under The Lost Legacy’s Shaun Escayg, but there is no official announcement yet.
Until Sony or Naughty Dog confirms the project, everything beyond that remains subject to change.
