Porting Meaning in Gaming
Porting is the transfer of a video game or software to more platforms to make it available to a broader audience. For example, a PC port happens when a game available on consoles launches on personal computers.
What is a Game Port?
A port is a modified version of a video game adapted to run on a different platform than the one it initially launched on. The process often includes technical changes, like improved graphics or adjusted controls. Sometimes, such a port looks worse than on the original platform. Still, its goal is to make the game playable on different hardware!
Games that received a Port
- The Witcher 3 (Switch)
Four years after The Witcher 3’s launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, the developers ported the game to the Nintendo Switch. While it doesn’t look as stunning as it does on consoles and PC, players are praising its excellent performance!
