In the hands of a professional player, a sniper rifle can be a deadly weapon at any distance.
In first-person shooter games, you’ll often find a variety of weapons to choose from. Usually, they’re balanced in such a way that they excel in certain scenarios. Some are better at a large distance, some work better in close-quarter encounters.
No Scope Meaning in Games
But there’s one type of weapon that can work in virtually any scenario – a sniper rifle. Sniper rifles, by default, are extremely difficult to use at close range. They have a low fire rate and you can’t aim down sight with them, as they’re often equipped with a sniper scope, which makes it nigh impossible to aim at nearby targets.
However, there’s a way to use them effectively at close range: just go no scope. No scope means firing a sniper rifle without resorting to precise aiming. You simply shoot the gun in hip-fire mode and pray for the kill. Sometimes it’s possible – and preferred – to do a quick scope instead, which means using the scope and firing immediately; it can greatly improve accuracy in some games.
It’s a trick that’s extremely difficult to pull off correctly, as most of the time you don’t even have a crosshair available in sniper rifles, plus the rifle tends to be very inaccurate when used that way. However, with some practice and luck, you can master no-scope kills and surprise the opponents.
Here’s what is a no-scope kill in some popular FPS games.
Call of Duty Games
Sniper rifles in most Call of Duty have extremely large hip fire shot radius, making it practically impossible to predict where the bullet will go if you try to no scope. For that reason, no scope in Call of Duty is often more of a luck than a showcase of skill. In Black Ops 6, there’s a special finisher called 360, which is a reference to “360 no scope” in which the player attempts to make a full spin and then no scopes the enemy with a rifle; it’s mostly used to mock and embarrass the enemies. In Modern Warfare 3 it was possible to use a Longbow rifle to no scope relatively easily, but the gun got nerfed pretty quickly.
CS:GO and CS 2
In Counter Strike, no scope is a skill that can be learned. Players most often use AWP rifles for this. That’s because it’s an incredibly powerful weapon that can usually take down the enemy in one hit, making it an ideal weapon for no-scope kills; one hit is all you need. It requires great reflexes and low reaction times, as your enemy won’t be standing still, waiting to get hit; you’ll have to learn how to aim at close-range targets that move quickly.
Halo Series
No scoping in Halo games is part of the gameplay, which is indicated by the medals you can earn. In Halo Infinite there’s a medal players can earn for no scoping an enemy with a power sniper rifle. In previous Halo games (Halo 4 and 5), there is a medal called Snapshot, which serves the same purpose. With that being said, Halo Infinite seems to be discouraging this kind of play by introducing a larger hip fire spread for sniper rifles, making no scopes reliant on luck.
