Have you come across the concept of a Zoomer but don’t know what that means? Here’s an explanation!
Gaming is brimming with cryptic slang terms like camping, grinding, nerf, and the Zoomer we’re discussing today. Most of them mean pretty understandable things (once you grasp their definition), so let us explain the last one!
Zoomer (Gaming Slang) Meaning Explained
Zoomer Meaning in Games
Like in other life areas, gamers fall into specific generations defined by their birth date. Therefore, Zoomer stands for a Gen Z gamer! The term derives from Generation Z – people born in the late 90s or early 2000s.
What is a Zoomer?
Like other generations, Gen Z gamers have their gaming preferences and habits. For example, Zoomers tend to prefer console video games. They also don’t play as frequently as older Millennials, but they like to invest more hours per session. Ultimately, their gaming routines focus more on quality than quantity.
The term is often used in memes to compare (or mock) differences between generations, but that doesn’t always apply to gaming. As you might have already guessed, the word Zoomer is a play on the term Boomer – a shortened version of Baby Boomer.
What games do they play?
According to the 2022 statistics, Zoomers are more into playing games and watching game-related content than any other generation. Gen Z women prefer casual mobile games of action, match 3, or puzzle genres. Gen Z men, on the other hand, tend to play action and fighting games on consoles. Regarding specific titles, Generation Z loves Minecraft, Fortnite, and Call of Duty!
As you can see, every generation has its place in the gaming world, including Zoomers. At the end of the day, differences between various generations’ preferences aren’t particularly drastic – but it’s nice to know we all have a passion for slightly different things!
