Rockstar finally showed GTA VI in action, and the 26-minute Extended Look revealed much more than another trip around Vice City.
The presentation showcased missions with Jason and Lucia, character switching, updated police systems, a huge list of side activities, more involved car theft, and a world that appears considerably more interactive than GTA V.

The Grand Theft Auto VI (PS5) – PSN Key – EUROPE pre-order is currently available on G2A Marketplace. The Standard Edition includes the base game and Vintage Vice City Pack pre-order bonus.
The presentation first aired through Netflix on August 27 before reaching Rockstar’s own channels. Rockstar confirms that the footage was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Jason and Lucia Work Like an Actual Team
One of the biggest changes is how closely GTA VI builds its missions around Jason and Lucia working together.
The showcase opens with a drug pickup that goes wrong and turns into a shootout. Jason is under player control while Lucia moves alongside him, takes cover, and fights as part of the same encounter. Later missions show the perspective moving between the pair depending on what is happening.
IGN’s hands-on preview also indicates that their relationship is not purely cosmetic. Players can choose how much they nurture Jason and Lucia’s romantic connection. They remain partners in crime regardless, but the state of the relationship can affect how their story develops.
The Police Are Getting Much Smarter
The old six-star wanted level is officially back, but the more interesting change may be how the police identify you.
According to details shared after the presentation, GTA VI tracks a broader Criminal Profile in addition to the traditional wanted level. Clothing, appearance, and vehicles can matter when authorities are looking for Jason or Lucia.
That should make escaping more involved than simply driving outside a search circle. Changing your look, abandoning a recognizable vehicle, or preparing differently before committing another crime may become part of the process.
IGN also revealed a new Focus system that can highlight police, collectibles, points of interest, and potential leads in the environment. Some discoveries made while exploring can even open new mission opportunities.
Leonida Is Full of Things to Do
Rockstar also used the reveal to show just how much time players can waste between story missions.
Basketball is playable, alongside street and dirt-bike races, car meets, kayaking, scuba diving, jet skis, fan boats, base jumping, shooting ranges, gym workouts, pool, and even mini-golf.

The gym has actual gameplay attached to it, while IGN reports that GTA VI also tracks aspects of Jason and Lucia’s physical condition. Spending too long partying or avoiding sleep can show on the characters, while exercise can affect their appearance.
It sounds much closer to the simulation-heavy approach of Red Dead Redemption 2 than the relatively lightweight lifestyle systems of GTA V.

Even Stealing Cars Is More Complicated
Grand Theft Auto is apparently making the “grand theft auto” part a little less automatic.
Some vehicles can require specific tools or a short minigame before they can be stolen. Higher-end vehicles may demand more work than an old car parked at the side of the road.
Cars can also function as storage. Clothes and weapons can be kept inside vehicles, which becomes particularly useful if police recognition really does depend on what the protagonists are wearing and driving.
The Extended Look also showed more reactive NPCs. Pulling a gun does not guarantee everyone will respond in exactly the same way, and shop owners may fight back instead of politely contributing to Jason and Lucia’s retirement fund.

Rockstar Finally Showed the GTA VI It Wants Us to See
The timing is important. Many of these mechanics had appeared in development leaks before the showcase, including basketball and the six-star wanted level.
Now, however, we have current official footage showing that GTA VI really is leaning toward a denser, more systemic version of Rockstar’s open-world formula.
Character switching, more reactive police, deeper car theft, optional activities, relationship systems, and a much busier Leonida suggest that simply existing in the world may be almost as important as completing the next mission.
And this time, we do not have to judge it from somebody’s leaked development build.
