It’s not yet entirely certain what Nintendo Switch’s successor will be called, but what is known is that it will support Switch’s “software”.
It’s a piece of news coming from Nintendo’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, reported via the Japanese publisher’s corporate X account. That same statement also says Nintendo Switch Online will be available for the upcoming console.
Both pieces of information point towards a reasonable conclusion: backwards compatibility for Switch games. The statement doesn’t go into detail, but it does promise details will be coming “at a later date”.
It seems that your library of games is going to make a safe trip to whatever hardware comes after Switch, but as always: it’s worth to keep excitement in check until more definite and detailed answers are provided.
This also counts as a definitive confirmation that there IS a new console coming, ahead of formal announcement planned for March 2025. Until then, Switch 1 is going to get a few new games in the coming year, with new Metroid and Pokémon games leading the charge.
