Ubisoft confirms a free story DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, arriving later in 2025 with a new chapter set in Saudi Arabia’s ancient city of AlUla.
Ubisoft has just dropped an unexpected announcement – Assassin’s Creed Mirage free DLC, coming in 2025! Revealed during the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, this new content will take its players to the 9th-century city of AlUla in Saudi Arabia. The DLC will also introduce a new story chapter, new missions, and gameplay tweaks to both the AlUla setting and the entire base game. Moreover, it will be “all for free”! What else do we know?
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Gets Surprise Free Story DLC in 2025
It’s exciting news – Mirage, that was meant to be a standalone video game with no DLC, is now getting a free expansion! As we recently learned, the announced free content differs from the studio’s original plans and might be part of a strategy to revive some interest in the title from 2023.
The story behind this process is as interesting as the DLC itself. According to the French newspaper Les Echos, a deal with Savvy Games Group, a company funded by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), may be responsible for the creation of this new expansion. Controlled by the Saudi royal family, PIF invests in massive gaming companies like Nintendo and EA, but also remains controversial due to human rights issues and ties to the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Unfortunately, the AC developer still hasn’t officially commented on that cooperation.
Moreover, the Ubisoft Mirage update is a signal that the developer hasn’t given up on Mirage and wants to make it interesting, especially after the release of the larger Assassin’s Creed Shadows earlier this year. This way, the introduction of new content might encourage newcomers and experienced fans to play Mirage in 2025.
Also, when Mirage launched in 2023, fans were enjoying its return to the series’ stealth and parkour origins following the RPG approach of Valhalla and Odyssey. However, as we can see on Reddit, some players criticized Mirage for its short campaign and the fact that the title feels more like a large DLC than a complete title. The new free add-on, which deepens Basim’s story and adds Mirage AlUla missions, may be the answer to those voices that want the Assassin’s Creed franchise to return to its roots and stealth gameplay!
