SCS Software has revealed another city from the upcoming Illinois map expansion for American Truck Simulator. Let’s take a closer look at Champaign.
American Truck Simulator Map Expansion – Illinois
Illinois is the next big map expansion for American Truck Simulator that will soon join the game as the new U.S. state, following Missouri, Iowa, and Louisiana.
It was originally announced in February 2025; since then, developers have teased it multiple times on the SCS Software blog, showing us what they’re working on at the moment.
In the most recent update, SCS revealed a new city that will be featured in the upcoming expansion: Champaign.
ATS Illinois DLC Champaign Overview
Just like in real life, Champaign will be a part of a twin-city area, joined by Urbana, combining Midwest culture, a strong tech scene, and rich farmland.
SCS aims for relatively high map accuracy, so you can expect a pretty believable version of Champaign to appear in the game. Even though it’s not a direct 1:1 representation of the real city, you’ll feel a recognizable aura as you pass by all the landmarks that make Champaign unique. The city hall, church, hospital, some higher-story buildings, and a local park all bring a sense of familiarity to the place.
But of course, the SCS team hasn’t forgotten about including the most important highlight of the city: the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), one of the top public research universities in the U.S., which will also be present in the game’s version of the city as a part of the university district.
One of Champaign’s most crucial parts of the economy is agriculture, which perfectly fits the theme of a trucking simulation. As such, one of the places for deliveries is a food processing depot. You’ll also be able to find a job at the local car dealer, warehouse depot, or furniture store. Whenever you go, there’s always something to do.
New Features in Illinois DLC
The new expansion focuses on expanding the map itself. As such, the major highlight of the DLC is the new U.S. state, giving us a unique opportunity to admire its scenery and explore new cities. There’s little known about new gameplay features at the moment.
