Good time for old games from five hundred years ago.
Bard’s Tale is a game that most folks know from the cheeky hack’n’slash game InXile made, oh, just 14 years ago, featuring a talkative bard and an exceptionally snarky and confrontational narrator. It was good fun, but not very similar to the original games.
See, those were some proper dungeon crawlers like, say, Legend of Grimrock from 2012, and now, after so many years, a proper sequel’s coming. And to celebrate that The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep got a nifty launch trailer.
It’s going to be a full-on first-person team-based turn-based combat, and that today it sounds weird is a great failure of gaming as a whole. But we’re getting there. There’ll be puzzles, there will be demanding monsters to slay, NPCs to manipulate and scam like players are wont to do, and generally have an, bleh, immersive adventure around the famed town of Skara Brea.
The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep launches on September 18th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
